The Golden Ticket

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

Hammer is one of the bowling industry leaders.  They are concerned because tournaments are disappearing and three out of every four sanctioned league bowlers have quit the game in the last thirty years. They are looking to do something to keep the game of bowling going strong for generations to come.  They want to get back to the good old days when people bowling twice a week was the norm.

In order to do help help the game of bowling to progress they are doing a number of things on their website savebowling.com.  One of the things they are doing is the Golden Ticket Ball Program.  In the program, Hammer has scattered 10 winning balls across the country.  After purchasing the new Hammer TNBA Rhythm you go to the Golden Ticket Ball Program and enter your ball’s serial number before May 15 and you might be the lucky winner of new ball from Hammer’s 2012 product line.

The new Rhythm is the latest ball designed to continue raising awareness of one of the most historic bowling organizations in America, the TNBA!  The Rhythm combines our very popular Arson core with the strongest coverstock from last season, Grand Theft Reactive, first poured on the original Taboo.  This creates an incredibly strong solid symmetric ball in the Hammer line!  Not only can you participate in the Golden Ticket Ball Program, but a portion of the proceeds from every Rhythm ball sold will go to support the TNBA.  So help save bowling and purchase the Hammer TNBA Rhythm.

The Heart of Your Ball

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Bowling balls coming in all colors and weights, but the dimensions are the same.  You can even get a ball with your favorite sports team on it these days.  While the colors and logos give your ball personality.  The performance edge is more than skin deep on a bowling ball.  The heart and soul of a bowling ball is its core.

The core of your ball is what gives it the desired effect and allows for different playing styles. A bowling ball core itself is a polyester resin that is composed of different chemicals including barites, silica powder and limestone to name a few.  The different variations of these cores are determined at the outset, where weights and density determine the effect on the ball.  The core is asymmetrical to make it easier to get you the hook and pick up those strikes. Each core is calculated to fit the exact specifications of each type of ball.

They take the core and put it in a sphere mold that is locked down and filled with liquid polymer. The polymers can take days to dry depending on the type of bowling ball being made.  After this section has solidified the veneer that is seen by the naked eye is formed around the core.  So whether you’re rolling a Hammer, Ebonite or Storm know that your ball has gone through an extensive process.

Here are a few links to some cool videos showing the process of making a bowling ball:
