We came across a great blog in this website’s archive. Great tips on saving money while you bowl posted by coach 3G. It seems too that he maybe hadn’t come across the great savings here at bowling.com. But even with our savings this hobby is hard on the pocketbook if you want to do it every night! Bowling vs Pilates – really??
Friday, February 17th, 2012Your First Bowling Ball – Choices, Choices Ouch!
Thursday, February 9th, 2012
The inspiration for today’s blog is on of our twitter followers Dustin Roberts. He asked “What kind of ball would you recommend for a new bowler starting out?” We understand that when you get serious about bowling the products and options can be overwhelming. Each ball company puts outs many new balls a year and a new bowler has got to find that confusing. Are they improving on something that didn’t work or can I go with an older ball that seems to look like its going to do what I need? So, here are some tips for ball selection in general.
Sports Illustrated Kids Gives Tips From the Pros
Friday, January 27th, 2012Special thanks to Sports Illustrated Kids for posting this on their fun SIKids page. Great to see that they are using a pro to teach the kids a good approach, swing and ball selection. Show this to your kids before going bowling all together next time. They might take the advise better from a pro anyway. Sorry Mom and Dad – no matter how great your game!
Knowing Your Scoring
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012
While most bowling lanes these days can keep score automatically, knowing how to properly score a game of bowling will likely come in handy at some point or another. Many regulars to bowling know the scoring already, but there are plenty of others who rely entirely on the automated systems that score one of America’s favorite activities. Now just imagine if you find yourself at a bowling alley that doesn’t use automated scoring, without anyone in a group that knows how to keep score?
Understanding the bonuses from strikes and spares is usually where things get tricky. To put things simply, a spare gives a player a one-ball bonus, in which the next ball rolled will count toward both the frame with the spare, as well as the current frame.
With a strike, it’s a two-ball bonus, meaning the next two balls (even if rolled over two frames), will be counted toward the frame with a strike.
One thing that makes this easier to understand is to know that when a strike and a spare happen in consecutive frames, no matter which of the two comes first, the result of the first frame will always be a score of 20. For example, if a spare is followed up with a strike, that means all 10 pins of the ball following the spare were cleared, adding those 10 extra pins to spare frame. If a strike comes first, to follow that up with a spare would have taken the two rolls that count toward the strike frame, again totaling 10 pins.
Much of it can be learned more in-depth by looking over a bowling scorecard and figuring out how a specific score got to be where it was.

Bowling Terms Crystal Clear
Friday, January 20th, 2012
It’s funny how when you start something new, not only is there a learning curve for the skill involved but also the jargon is important to have down. Here’s a very comprehensive list, Do you know all of them? Thanks to the Ultimate Bowling Guide for these terms. Hopefully there are a few that you’ve heard but never quite understood. Now you know and “knowing is half the battle!”.
Oh, Where, Oh, Where Is My 300 Too?
Thursday, January 19th, 2012
After Jason Belmonte’s 300 game, inevidably a lot of people have that goal fresh in their mind. It was thrillling to watch but just how elusive is a 300? How and when and how many times has it been accomplished? Jason was amazing and it is not an easy feat by any stretch of the imagination, but really how often does that perfect game happen in an alley near you? Is there a club on the board or list at your Bowling Alley? Are you in that club? If you are – congratulations. If you aren’t yet, then dream the dream and one day..right?
So let’s get down to those brass tacks. What is an official 300 game? It is genereally considered official when the game is recognized by a major bowling organization such as the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), the United States Bowling Congress, the Amateur Bowling Tour (ABT) or the British Tenpin Bowling Association. That organization will then inspect the lane after the 300 is thrown and call it official. These organizations all have a commemorative game ring. Just like the Superbowl! Most of us don’t end up with a fancy ring but instead are given a trophy or plaque and better than all, bragging rights for a very long time at our local alley.
Kindness Begins With Me

Minding your P’s and Q’s is just a huge part of life right? Being polite gets you a long way with most people. And using your best bowling manners make the lanes fun for everyone. Its not even like it’s hard either. Most of the unwritten rules are just common sense. But when they are practiced by everyone, there is no greater place to be!
Ok, so you enter the alley. Right away there are some things to remember. First, you will need to make sure you know the rules of the alley. They may do things different from other alleys you’ve played in, so take note. Rent the shoes! You have to wear them because “real” shoes leave marks on the approach. You could fall, squeak, and distract others. If you do this as a hobby or go more than 3times a year – buy some of your own shoes! They aren’t expensive and they fit you foot! Look at our blog Fashionista in the Alley for tips.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers during this holiday season. We hope your presents from bowling.com were amazing hits with your loved ones. Sometimes, however, we all miss the mark just a little bit. Oops. You swear your husband’s shoe size was an 11 last year… Or you know you heard your son say he wanted a Hammer Taboo but really it was a Storm Virtual Gravity Nano. How did you get that wrong, right? Well, the only way this would really be a problem situation is if you ordered from anyone else but us! So, never fear!
PBA World Championship Recap
Wednesday, December 21st, 2011
Right now you probably have decided that all you want for Christmas is NOT to have to stop at WalMart again – ever! The excitement of running and getting is unparrelled during the Holidays. But you, you are one of our customers and hense, the smartest in the land, and you have everything ordered from us and wrappped under the tannenbaum. Awesome!
This was not without sacrifice though. While you were doing all of the early preparation, unfortuneately you might have missed the PBA World Championships on ESPN! Missed it live but are about to sit and watch it with the best pack of chips, dip and beer. Or maybe a cup of cocoa and a candy cane to stir? However you watch it – take the time. If you caught it live – wow. We don’t want to spoil it in a blog but it was really great Championship. Equally as good was some of the coverage and then advise. This post by The Bowling Guy is great and incoorporates a video by Xtra Frame’s Jackie Bowling. Great, emotional and some excellent recap and advise about the balls used throughout the last game.

Crafty Old Bowling Balls!
Tuesday, December 6th, 2011
This Christmas your family is going to get a real treat. New bowling balls! Personalized in every way. Weight, style, drilled for each individual and your hobby will take on a new excitement. Now, what do you do with the old bowling balls that just cannot be thrown any more? They are cracked and almost don’t even make it down the lane. What do you do? Do not throw it away!
For the crafty bowlers amongst us, there are tons of cute and clever ideas for “recycling” old balls into garden decorations, sculptures and even furniture!
One of the easiest ways to resurrect your old bowling ball is to simply give it a nice coat of some bright, water-repellent paint. It doesn’t take any extra artistic skill to paint on some oversize eyes and facial features, and voila, you have your very own Bowling Ball garden gnome! Just stick it in your yard or in a flower planter and be prepared for the amused chuckles of your admiring neighbors. (more…)
