We are all saddened to hear of the passing of the great Don Carter. He died at his home in Miami on Thursday night. He had just returned home from a stay in a Miami hospital where he was fighting pneumonia. He was 85 years old.
ESPN today described him as: “bowling’s original superstar. He became his sport’s most recognizable name when bowling was a fixture on TV. Carter became a leading force in the formation of the PBA in 1958. He was voted Bowler of the Year six times, served as the PBA’s first president and became a charter member of the PBA Hall of Fame in 1975.”

Returns are No Biggie
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers during this holiday season. We hope your presents from bowling.com were amazing hits with your loved ones. Sometimes, however, we all miss the mark just a little bit. Oops. You swear your husband’s shoe size was an 11 last year… Or you know you heard your son say he wanted a Hammer Taboo but really it was a Storm Virtual Gravity Nano. How did you get that wrong, right? Well, the only way this would really be a problem situation is if you ordered from anyone else but us! So, never fear!
A Brother Like That
Can we just take a moment to be terribly sentimental? We realize it is a risk. The world is so cynical. We hope you read this is story and go “hum…” That’s it. We are all excited for the holiday for whatever reason. It could be because we know we are going to get something very special. Or perhaps be with someone very special. But, mostly what brings the best feeling is giving something very special. Read More »
PBA World Championship Recap
Right now you probably have decided that all you want for Christmas is NOT to have to stop at WalMart again – ever! The excitement of running and getting is unparrelled during the Holidays. But you, you are one of our customers and hense, the smartest in the land, and you have everything ordered from us and wrappped under the tannenbaum. Awesome!
This was not without sacrifice though. While you were doing all of the early preparation, unfortuneately you might have missed the PBA World Championships on ESPN! Missed it live but are about to sit and watch it with the best pack of chips, dip and beer. Or maybe a cup of cocoa and a candy cane to stir? However you watch it – take the time. If you caught it live – wow. We don’t want to spoil it in a blog but it was really great Championship. Equally as good was some of the coverage and then advise. This post by The Bowling Guy is great and incoorporates a video by Xtra Frame’s Jackie Bowling. Great, emotional and some excellent recap and advise about the balls used throughout the last game.

Strikes For Spuds
Before Utah State and Ohio University go bowling on Saturday, they went bowling. The results are in for the Strikes For Spuds! Everyone had a blast. It is fun to see these athletes bowl!
Utah State football arrived in Boise, Idaho Tuesday afternoon, being welcomed by the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl at the Aggies’ team hotel, then later won the Strikes For Spuds bowling event, earning 1,400 pounds of potatoes for charity.
The USU offense faced off against the Ohio defense, while the Aggies’ defense squared off against the Bobcats’ offense, and the scores were added from the two games, and Utah State emerged victorious, 238-211.
College football teams set to go bowling, yes we mean bowling
Bowling is one of the charity events surrounding this year’s Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. What is a potato bowl? It isn’t what is for dinner, but rather the annual football Bowl Game that takes place in Boise, Idaho. This year the game is on December 17th and Utah State will play Ohio University. The bowling event scheduled is called Strikes for Spuds.
The Two Hander from Down Under
After the excitement of the World Cup in South Africa, it warrants another look at that “lad” from Orange, New South Wales. Jason Belmonte has been named the November 2011 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America. He won a record three titles in the Professional Bowlers Association’s World Series of Bowling (WSOB) in Las Vegas. In the span of 16 days, the 2011 Bowling ESPY award winner captured his second, third, and fourth PBA titles. His career so far has been wonderful but really that isn’t what people still discuss on bowling league night. That discussion turns to his 2 handed throw.
