The Right Size

If you are a beginner in the sport of bowling, choosing a bowling ball may be a little intimidating.  Some people think that a heavier ball with knock the pins down easier and some think a lighter ball will be easier to handle and execute down the lane. You could spend a long time trying to find the perfect bowling ball since there are so many different ones to choose from.

When choosing a bowling ball the first thing to take into consideration is the spacing of the finger holes. Even the lightest balls can cause damage to your hand if the finger holes are not spaced well for you. If you were an experienced bowler than spending extra on a custom ball to fit your fingers would be the best options so you do not damage your hand over time. Also, buying a bowling ball that is made to fit your hand and fingers will ensure you play your best game. A custom bowling ball will be costly, however, and you should probably not consider buying one if you are just starting out.

If you do not want to spend the money on your own bowling ball, every bowling alley offers a wide variety for you to choose from. Just because a ball is heavy does not mean it will give you a strike. You have to be able to maneuver your ball and if it is too heavy you may not knock any pins down at all. Similarly, do not think a lighter bowling ball will be any easy strike because you can bowl it faster than the heavier balls.

Start off by picking a bowling ball with comfortable spaced finger holes. Then try a ball that is mid-weight. This is a good grounding for finding the perfect bowling ball. If you are overthrowing the ball then try a ball that is a little heavier. If you are unable to get the ball to the pins then try a lighter bowling ball.  Even professional bowlers may have two or three balls they use during a game so do not be nervous about trying out a few.

If you get serious about bowling and want to purchase your own bowling ball than go to a specialty store. There they can help you choose the best weight of ball for you and measure your fingers and place the finger holes exactly where necessary to ensure you a good game.
