Junior Team USA shines in doubles at TOA

Junior Team USA shined in the second event of the 52nd Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas on Wednesday, taking home a pair of doubles gold medals in the Junior A division.

Andrew Anderson and Ronnie Fujita teamed up to win the Junior A Men's doubles with a six-game total of 2,560 at Strikers Lanes in Sunrise, Fla. Junior Team USA's Julia Bond and Breanna Clemmer won the Junior A Women's title with 2,133.

In the Adult Women's division, Team USA's Brittni Hamilton and Holly Harris scored a bronze medal with 2,284 with Venezuela's Patricia de Faria and Karen Marcano earning the gold medal with 2,391. On the Adult Men's side, Team USA's Rob Gotchall and AJ Johnson finished fourth with 2,336 with Mexico's Alejandro Cruz and Mario Quintero taking gold with 2,655.

Rick Steelsmith and Larry Porter combined to give the United States a gold medal among Senior Men with 2,430, while the U.S. squad also won the gold in Senior Women's with Tish Johnson and Karen Barcal shooting 2,225.

Jesslyn Rhoades and Carol Teel teamed up to win the gold medal for the USA in the Super Senior Women's division with 2,150, while teammates Sam Carter and Jack Nelson took the silver in Super Senior Men's with 2,294.

In the Junior B division, the U.S. team picked up a pair of gold medals with Cortez Schenck and Sean Wilcox combining for 2,409 and Leah Glazer and Ashley Channell shooting 2,206.

The mixed doubles competition will take place on Thursday.

The Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas, the oldest annual international tournament in the American Zone, is a week-long invitational competition for countries in the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON), the American Zone of the World Tenpin Bowling Association.

In each division, one team comprised of two men and two women compete in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and mixed team. After 36 games, individual all-events and national all-events champions are recognized.
