Excellent Choice By Mr. B from Crestview, Florida
Reviewed on: 12/16/2009
Unverified Pros:Change slide length quick Cons:Short tongue Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Neatest bowling shoes I have every owned! The shoes are great for bowling in different houses with different approach conditions. Only short coming is the tongue is short and could be 1/2" longer. This makes the shoes hard to pull on. Dexter Mens SST -Issues but still good By rapdfire68 from Seattle Washington
Reviewed on: 5/28/2010
Verified Buyer Pros:Comfort, Versatility, Style Cons:Cost, Replacement sole cost, Replacement sole design Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend I purchase a pair a year ago and have had issues with the sole getting roled under and melting the velcro so it no longer sticks to the shoe. To replace is not cheap each time. The shoe insert liner wore out within 6 months. This is the second pair i purchased for my oldest son. Even with the issues and cost they are still a better quality shoe with optional heal and sole replacements than any other brand found. Was this review helpful to you? Unverified Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend I use these shoes at my local bowling alley and they are supper comfortable. They give my feet the support they need while feeling like they are in the comfort of a slipper. I hope to get many years of use out of them for the price. The shoes come with some different slides and heels, two shoe bags and one slip on shoe cover. Was this review helpful to you? Yes / No- You may also flag this review.

Good shoe...may not last! By Ken from Buena Park, CA
Reviewed on: 7/21/2009
Verified Reviewer Bottom Line:No, I would not recommend this to a friend I bought this shoe thinking I would spend a little more and get a shoe that will last a long time. After about a month of use, I noticed that my traction sole was coming loose at the toe. I guess I drag my back foot and didn't realize it. The Velcro is still there, but won't stick to each other. I've e-mailed customer support at Dexter, but no response after several weeks. I guess a solid sole would have worked better for me. Was this review helpful to you? Nice shoes, could be better By The Dude from Binghamton, NY
Reviewed on: 11/10/2009
Verified Reviewer Pros:Lots of sole choices, Nice looking Cons:Traction sole Bottom Line:No, I would not recommend this to a friend I've had these shoes for 2 days, 6 games and the traction sole won't stick at all near the toe. I knew it could be a problem beforehand with my style so I made sure the slide sole was moved back from the toe before ever using them, that didn't help. It's really just a poor design that I'll be repairing with some Shoe Goo... Really sad that I have to glue my brand new shoes together tho :( Was this review helpful to you? The Jury is still out debating this one By Wayne from Wake Forest NC
Reviewed on: 12/25/2009
Verified Reviewer Pros:Very Comfortable Cons:Foul odor initially Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend I consider myself a stroker. I average about 210 on the house shot and 180 on the sport shot. I bowl in about 5 tournaments yearly and practice at least twice a month. I'd like to bowl more but age is catching up with me :) I own a pair of Dexter shoes that I bought 4+ years ago at a local Sporting goods store and they have held up fine. They didn't need replacing, but after going to a tournament where the approaches were really sticky, I convinced myself it was time to get new shoes with replaceable soles. Out of the box I noticed a foul odor. I've worn the shoes four times now and it's really not an issue, but it was very noticable at first (and still noticable but disapating somewhat). The shoes came with the #8 sole and it was too slippery for me, so I immediately went to the #6 without even trying the #8 (very easy to switch). I practiced a couple of games, and while the feel was bit different, I didn't have any major issues. (Note - two reasons the feel is different - The cheapo ones I have are for left or right handers, so the soles are identical. These shoes have the #3 sole on the non-sliding foot which is a different feel. Second reason is that the heels are higher than my old pair. It's really a very small difference and I couldn't pinpoint it until I put one old and one new shoe on and stood up). After those two practice games I decided to wear them during the next league. I don't think I was really used to them yet or maybe I was thinking about them too much because I bowled poorly the first game and switched to my old dexter the second game and saw a huge improvement. I've since worn them twice more and I'm starting to get comfortable with them. (After reading all the glowing reviews about shooting 260+ the first game, I have to wonder). I do need to play around with them a bit more. I need to try the #5 (but my sense is that it is going to be too sticky because I felt like I stuck just a bit with the #6 in my house) and I wish there was a #7 sole to try. I also need to try changing the #3 to the #5 on the non-sliding foot. That might be closer to what I am used to. I'm not used to this much flexibility and it will take some time for me (unlike other people) to find the right feel. So Dexter, if you're listening, I seriously doubt the same bowler wants both a #10 and a #2 sole. You might want to sell two lines, one with soles on the sticky side for those crankers that want maximum leverage and one with soles on the slipery side for strokers like me that want some slide at the line. Or maybe instead of the 2,3,5,6,8 and 10, let me request 6 soles of my choice. I personally would probably opt for a 5, (2) 6's, (2) 7's and an 8. I need to see if you sell a #7 sole, but it's probably $15 and after paying for the shoes, its frustrating to have to shell out another $15 to get the right sole. Can I return the #2 and get a #7 to try? :) Overall, it's easy to see the quality is superior to the pair I bought at the local sporting goods store. The fit is true, meaning I didn't need to pay for the fit guarantee as this shoe fit the same as my existing Dexter. I'm satisfied so far and as I break in this #6 sole I expect to be fine, but I do wish they came with a #7. While I didn't try any other high end shoes, and have nothing to compare to, I would not discourage anyone from buying this brand. Was this review helpful to you? Good Shoe.. Bad Quality By Drumminbowl from SRQ, Florida
Reviewed on: 12/21/2009
Unverified Pros:Good shoe Cons:Very bad craftsmanship, Sole Defect, Paint ware after 3 games Bottom Line:No, I would not recommend this to a friend I bowl about once every 2-3 days. These shoes are wonderful shoes.. They just do not impress me with the craftsmenship that went into making them. There is a very large problem that I along with about 5 friends who own them have, where, the paint wore off on the sides after about 5 or 6 games of use. I do own a pair of white SST8s also and somehow, they do not have this problem. Dexter is a great company but they really skimped out on their known quality when they made these.. Nice look... bad shoe By Old Stroker from FW, MD
Reviewed on: 5/11/2010
Verified Reviewer Pros:Nice new look Cons:Bad construction Bottom Line:No, I would not recommend this to a friend Bought these as my pair of SST 6 are getting old and thought these would be a nice upgrade. The loop at the toe is messed up and sole does not completely stick. Had the same problem with the SST 4 which ended up with half the sole not sticking. Don't particularly care for the heels either; a bit too high for me. Gone back to my old SST 6 and will be buying another pair. SST 6 is the best shoe I've ever own. Dexter, take note and please don't discontinue the SST 6 line any time soon if you haven't already. SST 6s are still available from many sources if anyone wants to give them a try. Although there are good reviews here I must say I wouldn't waste money on the SST 8s. Maybe it was just the pair I got who knows??? Was this review helpful to you? [...] dexter shoes bad By honest customer from Sacramento Ca.
Reviewed on: 7/16/2010
Verified Reviewer Pros:Nice concept Cons:Dexter sub standard Best Uses:Disatified Bottom Line:No, I would not recommend this to a friend These shoes are Dexters best but with 3 months the traction sole came apart. The velcro separated from the sole. I have never had velcro separate like that before.I had to buy a new sole and and now it is fixed. Wrote to Dexter and explained the problem and they indicated that it could be normal wear and acted like I was trying to get a free pair of shoes. Dexter never even offered to make it right by sending a new sole which would have cost them very little. So a rating of one for the shoes and a -5 for Dexter customer service. Quality I expected from dexter. By Davie Boy from Kansas City, Missouri
Reviewed on: 3/13/2011
Verified Reviewer Pros:Stylish, Comfortable, Smooth Braking Control, Stability In Approach Cons:A little pricey Best Uses:All situations Describe Yourself:Casual Bowler Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend I had my original SST4's for about 14 years, and if I could still find soles for them I'd still be using them. But my last sole got way to worn so I knew it was time to get a new pair. I went with the SST8's, I wear an 11 usually so thats what I went with and they were a little too big so I sent them back and got a 10.5 and they are just right. Right out of the box I expected them to be really stiff but I bowled 16 games today and was very impressed with how comfortable they were, and both heels and soles stayed on with no problems even after 16 straight games, I know some people said they had problems with that. They had a great feel and seemed to have the quality that I expected. Even though I've only used them for one day I would recommend them to people. Nothing is perfect which is why I gave them 4 stars even though I haven't seen a fault yet. Even though they are a little expensive I do feel they are worth it, I paid [$] for my sst4's and they lasted me 14 years. I expect the same from these... Was this review helpful to you? Expensive but worth it. By Tiny from West Bend, WI
Reviewed on: 1/22/2011
Verified Reviewer Pros:Good Looks, Comfortable, Versatile Cons:Expensive Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend I just purchased these shoes a few weeks back to replace my old pair of Lynd's. So far they are working great. I had to change my heel pad right from the start but with the various pad combos it wasn't a problem. These are very expensive bowling shoes but the ability to buy replacement pads for it makes me feel a little better about the price. The only thing I worry about is the actual construction of the shoe. Buying the pads when they wear out is cheaper than buying a whole new pair of shoes but if the actual shoe doesn't hold up, then it kind of defeats the purpose. However only time will tell if they last longer than my 15 year old Lynd's. Buy these if you want the best bowling shoe on the market with the most versatile heel and slider pad combos. I would definitely recommend these shoes Was this review helpful to you? Yes / No- You may also flag this review.

I Dissapprove By NB from Sarasota, FL
Reviewed on: 1/24/2011
Unverified Pros:Interchangable soles, Interchangable heels Cons:Poor craftsmanship, Soles dont stick Best Uses:Bowling Bottom Line:No, I would not recommend this to a friend I bought these about a year ago. I can say that I should not have wasted my money on them. Not only does the sole on the left foot not stick, but the layer of paint on the leather is very thin. Dexter has shown very poor craftsmanship. My advice is to buy 3G/Dynorooz. Dynothane has top notch craftsmanship, and they cost about the same as SST8s. I would buy Dynorooz except for the fact that I wear size 15 :-( Was this review helpful to you? Yes / No- You may also flag this review.

Unverified Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend These shoes are so great. These SST8's are so comfortable straight out of the box. No break in really needed. These shoes are very good looking and out perform what I expected. I bowl in one league with a pair of Dexters that are ten years old and the difference is emazing in performance and how comfortable they are. Did have to bowl several games to find out what combination worked best for me. I would advise any body to buy these shoes even though they are high in price you get what you pay for. Gool luck.
