You can throw this ball, as if you were throwing a "straight" ball, and it will still hook. It was an upgrade for me, and I am so glad that I purchased it. Although it has an extreme hook on dry lanes, easily compensated for by hugging the gutter. I only wish it came in 10 lbs as I have tennis elbow. Flawless quality. I have had many bowlers ask about my new ball because as my score improved on average 50 points immediately after getting a high reactive ball. It made bowling much more fun!
