Hi, the Hammer Bad Ass 12 and 13lb balls have the diesel core which is a generic core they use in most of their higher end light weight bowling balls.

What is the outcome of a generic core on a lighter ball? Will it perform as well as the spheroid core in a medium oil?

In the lighter weight ball the weight block has to be changed for two reasons. First, if they kept the spheroid core, it would cause the weight block to be more of an influence on the lighter weight balls than the heavier balls and actually make the ball react different than the heavier balls because of this. The second reason is because they have to get the overall weight down in the ball and the weight block can make up a lot of that weight so it is easier to change the weight block than to try and make other parts of the ball lighter. The reaction will still be very similar with a different weight block but most of the reaction in the lighter weights will be from the coverstock which is the same no matter which weight you select.
