- Description: The new Primal Impulse is the first skid-flip ball from MOTIV. It features new Atomix SFP Reactive coverstock and the new dual-density Impulse core. This is an outstanding piece of equipment! Engineered for medium oil, the ball is very long and clean down the lane with a fast backend transition and incredible drive through the pins. When you want to swing the ball across the lane on a beat-up oil pattern and have it unleash off the dry, the Primal Impulse is the ball you want in your hand.
If the bowling industry had “Best Core Design Awards”, we believe MOTIV’s new Impulse™ would be the slam-dunk winner! We’re talking high RG and dual-density on this new high performance core. It provides the 15# ball with a 2.60 RG to get you down the lane with ease and a .050 differential for track flare of 5”+. The dual-density design maximizes the backend reaction through complex physics we won’t get into, but the bottom line is outstanding ball motion.
The look of this ball is crazy too! MOTIV complimented the insane ball performance with a color scheme that demands attention. Hot Pink Pearl and Black NeoMark graphics are integrated with a Blue Pearl and Lime Pearl coverstock. You WILL notice this ball on the lanes and on the shelf in the pro shop. It screams – LOOK AT ME!

Primal Impulse By Mags from Detroit, MI
Reviewed on: 11/24/2011
Unverified Bottom Line: Primal Impulse I was really looking forward to drilling this ball, knowing I would now have everything I need in my arsenal. This ball demonstrates a reaction that MOTIV has never offered before. Yes, this ball creates a very skid/flip reaction…it will get down the lane…and it will go sideways when it sees friction. The Primal Impulse is similar in length to the QZ2 Back Draft, but it responds off the friction much, much stronger. The backend is not comparable to anything MOTIV currently offers, this ball can cover every board on the lane if necessary. The Primal Impulse isn't lane condition specific, but as long as you can find the friction, you will find yourself throwing this new ball from MOTIV. My first session with the Primal Impulse was on a fresh house pattern with a synthetic surface. If you have a chance to look at my video you will agree, I wouldn't even need to give another ball a look. For me, this ball is designed to really open up the lane or broken down conditions. The further I moved in and the further I got the ball out, the harder and more violent the ball would come back. I tend struggle when I play in deeper and cover too many boards, but this ball helped me get better entry angle, even with me being more up the back of the ball. I did a very aggressive layout as I create natural length with ball speed, there is a picture of the layout in my video. You can see my video here: http://www.youtube.com/user/MOTIVmags?feature=mhee The Primal Impulse is a great sidekick along with MOTIV's benchmark ball, the Sigma Tour. If you are looking for a ball to open the lane up even more than the Sigma Tour, drill yourself a Primal Impulse! MOTIV Staff Member Mike Magolan Was this review helpful to you? Verified Reviewer Best Uses:Tournaments, Local Bowling Alley Describe Yourself:Pro Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend If you have been waiting for a skid/flip ball from MOTIV, your wait is over. If you have thrown other companies skid/flip balls, this will top them all, by a lot. This ball is so good, hit pins like it's mad at them and keeps them low to the deck. It doesn't make a move to the pocket until it's ready to, around the 50 foot mark it will make a left turn, a hard left turn. Like all the MOTIV equipment it stores energy and then releases it through the pin deck.I used a basic 4X4 stacked leverage lay out to see what this ball is capable of doing, and I found it to be very capable. I have used it on fresh house shots, fried house shots, and medium International Patterns, and this ball is not pattern specific. If you feel like using it, DO IT, it will not let you down. No matter where you lay it down, just float it to the friction and watch it go, and go hard it will.DavidPBA MemberBowlers Design Pro ShopMember Motiv staffwww.motivbowling.com Was this review helpful to you? If you're looking for a Skid-Flip ball… this is the one for you. The Primal Impulse goes long with an aggressive breakpoint – even though I drilled mine with a mild layout. (80* x 5 1/2 x 35*). When using this ball on a fresh house shot, It allows me to play a more angular shape to the friction. The dramatic change of direction – along with the eye-catching color scheme of the ball turns heads. "What ball are you throwing!?!" While it is a fun ball to play on a house shot… (Here is a video of me rolling a Primal Impulse on a fresh "Main Street" pattern: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLKM9we5_To …I had the pleasure of using this piece on a broken down Shark pattern at a recent tournament. This is where the ball earns it's keep. Initially I was tentative about getting the ball to the spot. Once I trusted it and realized that I can aggressively open up my angles, I found that this ball not only gets to the spot and recovers, but it retains energy like no other ball I've thrown. Translation: It carries when I need to play the 5th arrow! Was this review helpful to you? Yes / No- You may also flag this review.

I recently drilled two Primal Impulses and they did not fail to impress. The Primal Impulse filled that gap in my arsenal between the Sigma Tour and the QZ2 Backdraft. I've thrown the Primal Impulse on a variety of typical house shots ranging from 38-41 feet. It clears the front part of lane with ease and saves all of its energy for a very angular move in the backend. The backend on this ball is incredible!!! This has quickly become my favorite "IN" ball. I am able to play further inside and create lots of angle on the backend without sacrificing pin carry. Comparing my two differently drilled Primal Impulse's. Ball one picks up sooner in the midlane and has a smooth but still angular move on the backend. Ball two gets further down the lane and responds even harder off the dry, making the most angular move I have ever seen from Motiv. This is a must have ball in my opinion The Primal Impulse is set to release on Black Friday November 25, 2011. Order yours TODAY!!!! I will give it the benefit of the doubt because I decided to try another 14lb ball to increase my revs, "probably a mistake, should of got the 15lb." I had it drilled exactly like my Track 919c (which I love) and when this ball hits the pocket it reminds me of when an expensive firework is lit and you think it's going to devistate the sky with a loud noise and colorful light... Grip it and FLip it! By William Welch from Fort Lauderdale, FL
Reviewed on: 1/9/2012
Unverified Pros:Flawless Surface, Comfortable Grip, Attractive Design, Backend reaction, Great for Transition Best Uses:Upgrade, Local Bowling Alley, Tournaments Describe Yourself:Pro Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend The Primal Impulse by MOTIV Bowling is by far the most angular piece Motiv has ever produced. The new Impulse core is wrapped around the ATOMIX SFP (Skid Flip Pearl) shell. The dual density Impulse core gives the Primal Impulse an RG of 2.60 and a differential of .050 in 15 pounds. I chose to drill my Primal Impulse 50 x 5 x 40, putting the pin above my bridge. Leaving it at the box surface it shows me alot of nice backend.Coming out of the box at 2000 and Power Gel Polish the Primal Impulse gives the bowler a skid flip reaction. On a house shot, or tournament patterns when the lanes go through transition the Primal Impulse shows its length and strength down the lane. However with surface changes the ball can match up better on flatter patterns. In comparision to the previous release the Sigma Tour, the Primal Impulse is the perfect ball down from it. You are able to play the same part of the lane, without worry of the ball not getting through the front part of the lane. In comparision to other "dry" lane balls from MOTIV the QZ2 Blue/Black and Recon Silver RX-1, the Primal Impulse will read the lane earlier and have much more backend. There are many angular bowling balls on the market but the Primal Impulse stands out not only due to the colors, but the continuation the ball has through the pins due to that dual density of the Impulse core. If you are bowling a second shift league, or having trouble when the lanes begin to transition or break down the Primal Impulse is what you are looking for! Here is a link to my Primal Impulse in action:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n7scY6iQsQWilliam WelchMOTIV Staff Member10 [@] ManagerFort Lauderdale, FL Was this review helpful to you? The ball has the greatest continuation of any ball that I have ever seen. The ball gets through the pins on every shot. This ball will destroy any house any shot, and is even better when the lanes start to dry out. The cover on this ball is extremely clean through the heads and the ball absolutely unleashes on the back end. Drill this ball with a longer pattern and make it get down the lane and then peel off of the corner, or drill the ball with an earlier layout and watch it become a hook monster, with still being extremely clean through the front. Plus with the new vibrant colors and the bright pink logos, this ball will make you stand out about the rest.
