- Description: At Roto Grip, we rule the lanes! And you better have your game in gear if you want the same. Starting at the center, the “GUTS”, the new Paragon™ core features contours designed to help expand the RG planes of the ball. This unique elliptical shape defines predictability of axis migration and allows you to perfectly match up your ball reaction to the condition at hand. Strong midlane roll and a HUGE continuous, sweeping hook on the backend! This is a serious technological advancement. Moving on to the shell, the “GRIT”, we’ve developed a new MicroBite coverstock that is stronger and more textured than the competition. Microtechnology, the use of extremely-small structured additives down to a millionth of a meter, makes this possible. When finished with 3000-grit Abralon, this new MicroBite shell creates friction where others just cannot! And finally, looking at the “GRIME”, the designated oil pattern and lane condition, the Defiant is sure to handle even the heaviest amounts of oil. Today’s lane oils have more solids than ever before, making the lanes very slick at times. With the new Defiant, no more worrying about heavy oil often found on tournament shots! Roto Grip has you covered.

RG Defiant Review By Mike Craig from Central Ohio
Reviewed on: 1/4/2012
Unverified Describe Yourself:Pro Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Lay Out: 5" from PAP at 60* PAP angle and 30* VAL angle. Dual angle measurement would be 60/5/30. The pin ended up 1" above my ring finger with the CG tucked under the ring finger. The 60* angle put the RG about an inch right of my thumb. This is a favorite starting lay out of mine for stronger pieces. Surface: I am box finish which is 3000 sa-air abralon. Purpose: I wanted to drill up this up to see what it rolled like and also to get it on the lane beside other pieces in my bag (higher oil volume-longer patterns). Lane Condition Observations: I have thrown this on a couple of different patterns: Left over shot the morning after a strong scratch league and all night open play, Highway to Hell-40 foot- Kegel challenge pattern, and second shift of our normal league pattern. The second shift was following a mixed league full of plastic throwers and head pin hunters. All I can say is I love the reaction of this ball. Strong arcing but predictable would be the best way to describe it. Our house condition is 38 feet on Brunswick Pro Anvil Lane. On the overnight leftovers, I had to start inside of 20 to find upfront oil to push this with and even then, it was still too early. On the Kegel pattern, this ball had surprising recovery down lane. Normally HTH is a medium volume but slightly flatter in the middle than most house shots. As long as I got it going with good direction and motion to my target, I had miss area right of the target by a couple of boards. I got to put it to use following the mixed league in front of us and this ball didn't disappoint. I left a couple of 9 pins late in the set, but was able to keep making 2/1 moves across the pattern and keep striking. Response to friction: I would rate this a medium to quick response in box condition. The motion is strong and archy but not whippy off the spot. The response time might go up some with a smoother surface as this bleeds off a lot of energy in box condition. Other Ball Comparisions: I did get to throw it some side by side with my VG Nano, VG Nano Pearl, Virtual Energy (2), and Nomad Dagger on the Kegel pattern. I played this little game of shimming 2/1 left every 3-4 shots with the Defiant and Nano. The Nano kept up pretty well until I got about 12/6 across the pattern. Then the Nano had too much upfront angle to carry the corners and started to ping half tens. I was about 4/2 right of my original starting point with the Dagger. I could hit the pocket with the Dagger at this spot, but not get much angle to get thru the pin deck very strong. The VE had slightly more motion but again was close to 4/2 right of the Defiant and bouncing off the pins slightly less than the Dagger but not getting thru them enough to want to start a game with. The Nano Pearl was the same look as the VE, then I hit it with a 2000 abr pad. This put the Nano Pearl about 4/2 right of the Defiant but the Nano Pearl was able to get thru the pins much better and also kept up going across the pattern at about 4/2 right of the Defiant. From these observations, it looks like the Defiant and VG Nano Pearl can be good compliments to one another in any bag. Final Thoughts: The Defiant has a look that is strong arc and reminds me of a couple of other real good sellers from Team Utah in the past (original Cell, Virtual Gravity). The motion is very unique and strong. I would definitely recommend one of these for rev-challenged friends in box condition. This will hook enough to get thru the puddles on any house league shot. Tweeners may be able to throw box if they are a little more speed dominant. Slower speed tweeners and high rev players may need to smooth the surface up to get the most out of the Defiant. A must have for your arsenal By jeff_mersch from Orlando, FL

Verified Reviewer Pros:Strong backend reaction, Attractive Design, Clears the front Cons:None Best Uses:Tournaments, Local Bowling Alley, LongHeavy Patterns Describe Yourself:Pro Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Image Submitted by Reviewer:Customer Image (A must have for your arsenal) Layout on the ball is dual angle layout 45x4.5x60 with a balance hole down. I am a left handed tweener with a 325 rev rate. This ball is the next great high performance ball from Roto Grip. This ball is very continuous on the backend. It really does not stop. It goes through the pins with ease. This ball is perfect for longer/heavier patterns. Even with the strong backend, this ball clears the front very well. I have used this ball on heavier house patterns and sport patterns. I have tried this ball at multiple surfaces, and it has shown me that it is very versatile. This ball shines up well to get through the heads and save energy for maximum backend reaction. Even at 1000 grit, it still cleared the heads and continued on the backend. This ball is a must have for your bag. Who doesn't need a ball that will hook on anything? Was this review helpful to you? Yes / No- You may also flag this review.

ROTO GRIP - DEFIANT Review By John Brodersen from Helena, MT
Reviewed on: 1/11/2012
Verified Reviewer Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Image Submitted by Reviewer:Customer Image (ROTO GRIP - DEFIANT Review) Ball specs – 15 lbs 2 oz, 2.86top weight, and 3 1/4-inch pin. Using the dual angle method, the Defiant was drilled with a 4 1/4 inch pin distance, 75 degree drill angle and a 40 degree VAL angle. Using Strom's drilling methodology the layout is 4 1/4 X 6 X 2 1/2 pin buffer. An X-hole was not needed. The surface was initially left OOB. With a new cover stock formula (MicroBite), new core (Paragon), and OOB surface at 3000, the Defiant is Roto Grip's most aggressive ball to date. If you have some hand or slower ball speed the Defiant will definitely need some oil in terms of length, volume or both. I initially threw the Defiant with the cover left at OOB and found it to read early on a 41 foot, 24 micro-liter house pattern. Even reading early the Defiant never stopped on the backend. I was very impressed with the tremendous hit and carry. I then hit the cover with Storm's Reacta-Shine for the next outing. The cover seems very tunable and took the polish very well. (a polished Defiant looks great and would have great shelf appeal) The ball motion was very different on the same pattern. The Defiant became clean through the heads and had a much stronger move down lane. Hit and carry was again very impressive. The Defiant is a very strong ball that has more overall hook than the Theory. The OOB cover will benefit speed dominate or low rev players or play well on oilier conditions. Don't be afraid to add some polish for more length and a stronger backend move. John Brodersen RG amateur staff Was this review helpful to you? Yes / No- You may also flag this review.

Roto Grip Defiant Exceeds Expectations By Silverstreak74 from Prince George, VA
Reviewed on: 2/1/2012
Verified Reviewer Pros:Great Weight, Comfortable Grip, Attractive Design, Flawless Surface Best Uses:Local Bowling Alley, Heavy oil, Upgrade, Tournaments Describe Yourself:Pro Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend I drilled this marvel with the pin in the center above the fingers with the CG in the center of my grip with the MB kicked out slightly. I use this drilling frequently for league as it tends to work well on my THS (Typical House Shot.) Using the box surface with no alterations I anxiously pulled it out of the bag for league night. I was pleasantly surprised at how stable this ball rolled mostly due to the core design. The longer I left the Defiant in the oil the harder it seemed to hit. With ample oil I have yet to shoot under 250 with this ball when I am able to use it. Sometimes, as with many high performance balls there is simply not enough oil to use it before it "burns up." This has become my benchmark heavy oil ball. In summation, I strongly recommend this ball from intermediate to advanced players looking for a better look on heavy oiled/long pattern lane conditions. But it has very good mid-lane read and doesn't squirt through the break-point. The Defiant showed its strength on our house shot when the backs very not very clean and had some carrydown. The ball didn't wiggle down lane like some balls would. We have over a 100 units of oil in the middle part of our house shot and defiant cut right through it and had a strong arcing motion on the back. Feedback from our customers was that they were amazed with the great carry they got from the Defiant. This ball is will fit all styles of bowlers as the coverstock is very versatile. Along with the ball being driller friendly. The high rev bowlers will have to add step 2 or some light polish. Compared to Virtual Gravity Nano, the Defiant is cleaner through the fronts and has a little more backend motion. Defiant is another great product from Storm/Roto Grip Family. Unverified Pros:Continuous strong motion Best Uses:Tournaments, Upgrade, Local Bowling Alley Describe Yourself:Pro Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Image Submitted by Reviewer:Customer Image (Defiant) I used a 4 x 4 x 1 layout on my Defiant (see pic). The x-tra hole was placed 1" from my PAP to produce a hook/stop reaction on the back end. Shot 703 with it the first time out on a fresh house condition bowling with the kids on beat the coach day. The Paragon core was smooth through the heads, revved up easily in the mid-lane, and provided a strong, continuous movement through the pins. The 3000 abralon, Microbite coverstock reacted evenly off the friction. Energy retention in the Defiant is excellent. As the first ball in the new Royal Line, the Defiant will provide bowlers with a ball that gets through the oil, reads the mid-lane, and reacts evenly off the break point with strong pin hit. Surface adjustments for more or less oil volume can easily be made by hand or on a ball spinner. Was this review helpful to you? Yes / No- You may also flag this review.

The ball gives me a clean read through the heads with an even back end reaction. The defiant is a great all around ball for many types of bowlers. It is not a big flip ball so you can get a lot of control and it does not lack on power on the back end for a even ball. I did not think the defiant was going to be stronger than the Virtual Gravity Nano, but once I compared the two I got about 4 to 5 boards more recovery with the Defiant which was really surprising. With the way the ball is designed it is driller friendly so you can use your favorite layout with no problem. The first night of league with the defiant I shot 747 with the factory surface on it.
