Motiv Trident Abyss

Motiv continues the popular Trident high performance ball line with the Motiv Trident Abyss. This ball introduces the Coercion HV3 Reactive Solid coverstock and pairs it with the proven Turbulent weight block. This combination produces awe inspiring motion in heavy oil conditions by clearing the front part of the lane, hooking hard in the mid lane while storing energy to blast through the pins. This ball is a great for speed dominant bowlers as well as low rev bowlers looking for increased hook.

Definitely

I use this ball on my Sunday league which has oil drenched lanes. This ball is a pin killer on the lanes. Cuts through the oil no problem with a ton of power. Bowled some of my highest games with it. My highest game was a 227. Mind you I'm no pro. Only been bowling for 3 yrs.

Motivs strongest ball to date

Strongest Motiv Ball to date
Let me start off by saying this ball is a monster. I'm a fairly high speed player with a rev rate that sits around 420. I picked one up due a tourney I had coming up that was throwing down a 47 foot pattern, this ball is everything I expected it to be and get ready to believe the hype. Perfect ball for your higher volume tourneys. But let me tell you that's not all this ball offers. I also have tested it on several occasions on my house shot Tuesday nights and came away blown away with just how versatile the abyss is. Do yourself a favor and pick one of these new motiv monsters up, you won't be disappointed. #MOTIVBOWLING

Pros:

Really good on high volume patterns

Cons:

None, very versatile as well

Best Uses:

Heavy oil. Shined up it's great on a house shot.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Unbelievable ball for heavy oil!

I've used this ball on many different types of patterns ranging from PBA patterns to your typical house shot and the ball performs really well on everything. I did have to shine up the surface a bit on our home house shot, but our shot is typically dryer then most house shots I run into. I'd recommend the ball for anyone!

Trident Abyss is strong

Today I got this ball drilled to replace my other ball I currently use on heavier oil. After trying a few games I feel it's very versatile in the heavy oil. Will be a great ball to add to your bag if your serious about your game.

Control the Abyss!

Poseidon, the Roman god of the seas, dwells within the abyss... The symbol of his might, the Trident! With a trident in hand, the control of the abyss is in your hands. MOTIV has embraced this very myth. They introduced us to a piece that allows us to conquer the heaviest of oil patterns. This is shown in its very name, the Trident Abyss!
MOTIV has taken the Turbulent asymmetric core we have seen in the previous Trident pieces and wrapped it a modified version of the Coercion cover stock. We are now introduced to the Coercion HV3 reactive cover stock, which allows the Trident Abyss to dig hard and deep into the heaviest of oil patterns. The Abyss is, to simply put, no joke when it comes to dealing with heavy oil. This new modified cover stock allows you to carver right into the oil and simply control the pattern. What I personally like about the Abyss is that although it is such a strong cover stock and some of the concerns with that involves the ball burning up too early and lacking hitting power down lane, this is not the case. This piece allows me to develop shape regardless of how heavy the oil is on the lanes and still maintains continuation down-lane.
One interesting aspect I have found with the Abyss is that not necessarily limited to superbly saturated lane conditions. On several occasions, I found myself using the Abyss in situations where the lanes called for more of a controlled shape on the lane. Essentially, I'm referring to shots that were on the tighter side but not exactly heavier oil patterns. The Abyss allowed me to play a more simplified shape on the lane and if I experienced carry down, the Turbulent core still provided the hitting power down lane to snap out the corners. The Trident Abyss is an absolute must for the competitive bowlers that struggle on the heavier oil or those bowlers who face tighter-than normal house patterns that struggle with getting the correct shape on the lanes for optimal scores.

Question:

I like to use storm, but the strongest i have in storm is a sure lock anf i don't get the reaction on longer patterns. Should i get this or any motiv ball. Im a stroker/tweener mix

9/25/2018 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

A lot of the features on this ball were similar to the Storm Sure Lock. They have the same finish, both are high performance balls and they have the same RG differential so I could not say this would be stronger than the Storm ball you have now. The only other option if you were to get this ball would be to try a different drilling pattern to see if this gets the desired effect you were looking for.

Question:

Would this make a good beginner ball?

9/26/2018 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

We would not recommend this ball for a beginner as this is a high performance ball and only intended to be used in heavy oil conditions. Most beginners will not need something this strong to start with and they will likely be bowling in medium or lighter conditions most of the time so there are better more suitable beginner balls to select from. This ball is for a more advanced bowler who would need a ball that handles heavier oil so someone in leagues or tournaments.

Question:

I'm a 221 ave bowler in 3 different houses, currently bowling with code of honor and hammer ripd

11/12/2018 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Trident Abyss should be a little stronger than both the Code of Honor and Rip'd. It has a stronger weight block than the Code of Honor and a slightly duller finish which would give this more hook. The Rip'd cover and finish are designed for more length while the Trident Abyss is designed for more midlane and more grip so the Abyss would still be able to hook more because it can start hooking earlier than the Rip'd.

Question:

I have the Crux Prime where dose the Motiv Trident Abyss stands in comparison with the Crux.

2/28/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

They are going to be very comparable. Both are high performance balls designed for heavier oil conditions. They have the same 2000 Grit finish and their cores are similar strengths. If you have the Crux Prime, then you probably would not need the Trident Abyss also. If you were replacing the Crux Prime then the Trident Abyss is a good replacement.
