Storm Nova

The Storm Nova high-performance bowling ball advances core technology astronomically! By combining the advanced asymmetric Ignition core with the R2X Hybrid Reactive coverstock Storm is able to achieve the striking power that is expected from their high-performance bowling balls. This ball was designed to rev up fast and have a powerful finish with more movement downlane and extra flare potential. The hybrid coverstock and 3000-grit finish is ideal for heavy oiled lanes but is versatile enough to handle many conditions and surfaces with no problem.

Question:

I don’t put a lot of revs on the ball and throw it around 19 mph. I now use the proton physix on lanes that aren’t very oily. Is this ball going to do anything differently for me?

1/4/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Nova will give you a little more length because it has a hybrid coverstock and a slightly smoother finish at 3000 grit but both are designed to read strong in the midlane and have a good continuation through the backend. Not sure if you would see a big enough difference between the two to need both this and the Proton Physix.

Question:

My Arsenal is all storm I have phase 3 I also have Rubicon 2 and my main ball is code X so I want to know if adding the nova to my arsenal would be a plus for me being that it has the same grid as the Code X

1/23/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This Nova is not going to be quite as strong as the Code X. Also the Code X will read a little earlier than the Nova but your Rubicon UC2 would read later so if anything the Nova might fit in between the Code X and Rubicon UC2 but there may not be much room for you to need a ball between those two options.

Question:

What would be the difference between a 14# Phase 2 and the Nova? The number values are similar and so are the grits but the cores are sym and asym.

1/26/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Asymmetric weight block in the Nova will have a stronger reaction and the coverstock on the Nova will give you a little more length than the Phaze II.

Question:

My previous balls were the Alpha Crux, Crux Prime and the Omega Crux. Would you suggest the Nova as my next ball or something else?

1/30/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Nova will react earlier than your Omega Crux but later than your Alpha and Prime but it should fit very close in with the bowling balls you already have.

Question:

I have a proton physix I’m wandering if this ball would be a step or step down. I throw straighter and I just need something a little lower or higher than the proton

2/4/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Nova is designed to go just a little longer on the lane than the Proton Physix so it does not have as strong of an overall hook potential.

Question:

How would this ball compare moving from the Jackal Legacy to the Nova with the same drilling

2/9/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball has a hybrid coverstock finished at 3000 grit so it would go a little longer on the lanes than the Jackal Legacy which had a solid coverstock and 2000 grit finish. Both would work well in heavy oil.

Question:

How does this ball compare to the IQ emerald? I throw around 16mph

2/11/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This would be a lot stronger than the IQ Tour Emerald. Also, this ball will read the lanes earlier for a smoother arcing hook and it can handle heavier oil while the Emerald was a later reaction and worked more in medium oil.

Question:

I only throw my ball at about 10.5 mph will this ball still finish out like it’s supposed to?

2/15/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

If you had a lower rev rate to match your speed then you could get this to work in heavier conditions but if you have an average or higher rev rate it would be hard to use this ball. You may could polish the cover to help the ball go longer to help so it did not roll out too early for you ball speed.

Question:

I have medium rev but trying to increase. But I use the phaze2 now. Looking to add a very strong agressive ball. Would you recommend this. Also another ball to go along. Maybe a shiny

2/21/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This has a stronger hook potential than the Phaze 2 but this would read just slightly later on the lanes. If you wanted something shiny that gives you a really strong backend hook you could go to something like the Storm Dark Code

Question:

I'm looking to buy my first ball. Is this a good place to start? If so, what are two balls that are a step up and down from this one?

3/5/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This is a very high performance ball which is usually for more advanced bowlers who bowl in leagues or tournaments. If you are just getting started you may prefer to start with a ball either entry level or mid performance that is good in medium to lighter oil conditions. Then as you progress you could look at a more advanced ball that can handle more oil.

Question:

How does this ball compare to the original Halo? And how do both the Halo and Nova compare to the Roto Grip Gem?

3/10/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Nova will react a little later on the lanes compared to the Halo but it will make up for that extra length with a little more hook in the backend than the Halo. The Nova is also earlier than the Gem but the Gem would have more overall hook than all three.

Question:

how does this compare to the hustle

3/28/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This is a higher performance ball that works more in heavier oil conditions. The Hustle series is more of a mid performance ball for medium to lighter oil conditions. So the Nova will have a higher hook potential.

Question:

For long house oil, would Nova be a good complement to the Astro Physix?

3/30/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Nova and Astro Physix are both high performance balls and both can handle up to heavy oil. The AstroPhysix is designed to read later on the lanes so in longer oil you may prefer the Nova which is designed to start hooking earlier so it will have enough time to give you a good reaction. I would not say you would be able to use the Astro Physix as a back up to the Nova really but you could you the Astro Physix instead of the Nova if you have fresh oil but maybe not as long of an oil pattern.

Question:

Is there much difference between the Nova vs. Omega Crux? I'm looking for something to go along with the Crux for Nationals.

3/30/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

These are actually going to be pretty comparable between the Nova and Omega Crux. Also, I am not sure there is a big enough difference between the Nova or Omega Crux from the original Crux for you to need to take two. They are essentially all for the same kind of lane conditions with the difference being slightly different lengths. So unless you just wanted to have two heavy oil bowling balls at Nationals with slightly different lengths then you may prefer another option for something more suited for medium oil when the Crux is reacting to strong and/or too early.

Question:

I have a phase 4. is the nova a good alternative?

4/2/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Phaze 4 is an upper mid performance ball designed for medium oil and designed to break later on the lanes. The next closest option would be the Phaze III. The Nova has a higher hook potential and reads earlier on the lanes and handles more heavy oil.

Question:

I am a low speed, low rev bowler, would this ball be good for me?

4/9/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

If your ball speed and rev rate are both low then you could use this ball in heavier oil conditions. If your ball speed does not match your rev rate then you would have to more careful on the options but since yours match you can typically use just about any option.

Question:

Is the same core used in the 13# ball? I am getting on up there in age and I am not able to handle the heavier weights anymore.

4/12/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The weight block changes when you drop below 14lbs so the 13lb does have a different weight block. To see more details you may visit Storms website directly here: https://www.stormbowling.com/nova

Question:

Would the phaze 3 be good step down from this ball?

5/25/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Yes, that would be a good back up option. The Phaze 3 would be better suited in medium oil conditions and it is going to have a little more length than the Nova but not such a drastic change that you would have to make a large adjustment when you change over.

Question:

How doesthis ball compare to the roto grip gem

5/31/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Nova is designed to give you more length than the Gem. The hybrid cover reads later and the 3000 grit is a little smoother than the 2000 grit on the Gem so the also helps it go a little longer on the lanes.

Question:

How would this compare with the UFO solid and Hyper Cell Fused

7/5/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball is somewhat a blend of the UFO and Hyper Cell Fused. It has a hybrid coverstock like the Fused but a duller finish like the UFO. So it reads a little later than the UFO but a little earlier than the Fused. All of these are designed for heavier oil conditions and maybe some medium oil but they are high performance so they all have high hook potential.

Question:

How would this compare with my obsession tour 2? I roll a slow 11 mph and revs. Thxrelease

9/9/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball would react somewhere between the two Obsession Tour bowling balls. There is an Obsession Solid and this would read later than the Solid but it would react earlier than the Obsession Tour Pearl. If you have a slower ball speed you may want something with more length to help the ball get down the lanes before hooking so if you needed a higher performance ball that gives you good length you may check here for a good pearl ball option: https://www.bowling.com/shopping/all/bowling-balls/all?performance=3&coverstock=52
