The Storm Pitch Purple carries on the successful line of Pitch bowling balls in the Storm line up. The Pitch Purple introduces the Capacitor Core which offers the control and characteristics of the core in the Pitch Black but also results in the great backend motion that Storm prides itself in. This mid performance ball offers a high level of control for aggressive players while finesse players will find plenty of power at the pins. The Pitch Purple generates a long and smooth roll on difficult lane conditions due to its higher RG and lower differential. The Rev-Control Urethane coverstock was designed to offer a urethane midlane reaction as well as a responsive backend reaction giving this ball great maneuverability.

This ball is rated for medium to lighter oil but with his ball speed being a little low and I am guessing he has a high rev rate for a 2 hander then you may want to use this strictly in medium. It may be a little too early for lighter oil conditions for him.

The only difference is actually the coverstock. They have the same weight block and finish but the coverstock on this ball is a little stronger than the Pitch Black which can make this more suited for medium to light oil while the Pitch Black was more for light oil only.

I am looking to add another ball to my arsenal for when junior gold comes around. I do not have an extremely high rev rate however I do have a 14.5 mph speed. Would this ball be a good option for me? Is there something better on the market?

The urethane cover could be a good match for you with your higher rev rate and average ball speed. It depends on what you really needed. In your case with a higher rev rate you may need something a little weaker. So when an average rev rate bowler uses this ball for medium to lighter oil you could get this to work in more medium oil conditions pretty well. You will also get more movement with this ball than the numbers would indicate due to your rev rate so for any ball you look at you may have to think of it as one step stronger than it suggest for your type of release.

I use a 16 pound hammer blue with a very average ball speed. will this be a similar ball? Also 16 pound is a bit heavy for me and I would like to go lighter if I can, but I am afraid I will lose pin carry. Is this true?

This has a duller finish out of the box compared to the Hammer Blue Hammer so it will read a little earlier and grip a little more. When you drop weight the ball will lose a little bit of the carry but dropping 1 lb should not be a significant difference.

The Urethane is going to be a lot less hook potential than a reactive cover so the Web Pearl will have a much stronger hook potential. Also the Web Pearl will go long and have an angular backend hook while the Pitch Purple is a smoother gradual hook down the lane. This would definitely be more controllable if you feel like reactive balls are too much hook and too hard to control. Especially in medium to lighter oil.

How does this ball compare to the hustle 3tp and pitch black. I like how the 3tp finishes but I lack consitency as I am a straighter bowler. I average 15.6 mph and am looking for a straighter ball with less hook and consistant and finishes like the Hustle 3tp. What is your recomendation?

The Pitch Purple Solid Urethane is not going to be quite as strong as the 3TP in overall hook. The urethane cover is not as strong as a reactive cover but the finish on the urethane ball is duller which will make it start to hook more in the midlane for a smoother hook reaction. It will not have the sharp backend hook or finish that the 3TP has but it is a very easy to read ball and would be very consistent. I think you could use this but you just have to adjust to they way this ball reads.

Because this is a urethane ball and the others in your arsenal are reactive this would be weaker than the others you currently have. It will work in medium to lighter oil but the reaction is must smoother and will be a very easy to read hook starting in the midlane and continuing on the backend.

They will both have about the same hook rating actually. On a scale 1-10 these would be around a 3-4. The only difference is that the Purple Solid goes a little longer and has a little more backend than the Pitch Black which starts reading a little earlier.

It looks like the Covert Tank will have a stronger weight block but the Pitch Purple has a slightly duller finish out of the box so it may be able to get a little more grip on the lane but they will be very close in overall performance.

For a performance bowling ball, they are usually designed to work in specific oil conditions. If a ball is made to work in heavier oil conditions then it would likely be too strong for lighter oil conditions and if the ball is made to work in lighter oil conditions then it will not usually be able to grip when there is more oil. You could try to find a ball designed for medium to lighter oil or a ball designed for medium to heavier oil and that would give you the best range possible but unfortunately there is not a ball that works well in all lane conditions.

If you are a rev dominant bowler you may prefer to get a ball with a smoother finish or that gives you more length. This ball would be rated for medium to lighter oil but for your style it may work best in medium oil because it will grip in the mid lane due to the duller finish and with your high rev rate it may grip too much in lighter oil for what you need.

The Pitch Purple will have less overall hook than the Cyclone but it covers the same lane conditions. Also, it reacts earlier on the lanes with a smoother arcing hook compared to the Cylcone which goes longer with a sharper backend hook.

Urethane bowling balls are usually a weaker hooking ball and in most cases work in lighter oil conditions. In most cases people start with reactive bowling balls first because they are stronger and then as the lanes dry out through the night you can move to a weaker ball designed to work better in lighter oil and that would be something like a urethane ball.

The Pitch Purple and Fast Pitch are going to be pretty comparable. The Purple will start reading just slightly earlier in the midlane but it also has a slightly lower flare potential so it will be smoother overall than the Fast Pitch which has a little more length. However, if the lanes are very short then the ball could try to grip and roll out too early and not have continuation. If the oil is shorter but still a decent amount of oil in the front then you may want to get a ball that is more designed for length to help get down the lane better before it reacts instead of a urethane that is designed to read earlier but not as much.

If you polish the Pitch Purple it would increase the length and make the ball go longer on the lanes. It would make the ball have less overall hook because the ball would only hook at the backend and not have as much time to hook. Because the polish would make the ball only hook at the backend it would actually give it a bigger backend hook but it would cover less boards overall compared to the out of box dull finish.
