Ben Laughlin of Chandler, Ariz., defeated Josh Blanchard of Gilbert, Ariz., 230-146, to win the Professional Bowlers Association West/Northwest Regional Players Invitational title Sunday, concluding two days of live Xtra Frame coverage from Reno’s National Bowling Stadium.

Laughlin earned $6,000, a paid entry into the PBA World Series of Bowling V – which he was unable to accept – and a berth in a new PBA RPI Finals which will be televised on ESPN. The regional title was Laughlin’s 13th.

“Because of my work schedule, I will not be able to bowl the PBA World Series of Bowling V, but I am looking forward to bowling in the RPI Finals on ESPN,” Laughlin said. With his winnings, however, Laughlin said he now is planning on bowling the West/Northwest Regional events in Hawaii in 2014.

The West/Northwest Region RPI was the sixth and final in a series of six PBA Regional championship events. The RPI winners will compete in the PBA RPI Finals that will be taped for delayed airing on ESPN as part of the WSOB V at South Point Exhibition Hall B on Nov. 3. The RPI finals will air on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT). Players who previously qualified were Tom Daugherty of Wesley Chapel, Fla. (South Region); Dave Beres of Waukesha, Wis. (Midwest Region); Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas (Southwest Region); Brian Kretzer of Dayton, Ohio (Central Region), and Brian LeClair of Albany, N.Y. (East Region).

Each RPI was open to 48 players who have qualified through a season-long points competition in their respective regions, and each RPI was being covered live from start to finish on PBA’s exclusive bowling channel, Xtra Frame. Visit pba.com for Xtra Frame subscription information.

In a companion Sands Regency Non-Champions tournament on Friday, Adrian Anderson of Roseburg, Ore., posted a 3-3 match play record and a 14-game total of 2,956 pins to win $1,100 and his first PBA Regional title.

The PBA West Region will host the All Regions Singles and Member/Non-Member Doubles tournaments during PBA World Series of Bowling V at South Point Bowling Center Nov. 1-3.
