Hammer is calling it what it is... a legend. The Black Widow Legend takes the proven history of the Black Widow line and turns it up a notch. This is the first ball in this line to use a hybrid coverstock. This ball is aggressive with it's polished cover and then combine it with popular Gas Mask core to provide awesome movement on the backend that carries through the pins. This bowling ball is Carbon Fiber Infused! Carbon fiber is one of the toughest materials on earth. Hammer decided to add this material to the inner core of this ball for added strength and durability allowing them to offer an incredible 3 year warranty.
Great ball!
Great ball
Very pleased with the performance of the ball. I bought it to use at a bowling lanes that uses too much oil and makes my standard used ball not hook at all. The Black Widow now solves that problem all my scores have returned.
Everyday
I used this ball in league plays, and it works well. lots of turn and mixes pins well.
rolls long and very angular back end hits super hard
Black widow legend hits like a truck. Flips and keeps driving through the pins.
Sharp looking ball. Love the backend snap. I have a 184 average and bowled a 238 my first game with it. Look forward to using it more
After two weeks of learning the ball, I shot back to back 700's, 725 and 768. Had a 290 in the 768 series. Great ball and great reaction.
I use this in my league bowling in two different Bowling lanes. Working in Both Lanes at this time. Glad I am back to the Black Widow series. Seems to work good with my bowling technique.
Great ball for heavy oil and THS. Goes right through the mids and has a nasty, massive backend. Finishes hard with great carry.
I've been using storm products for a long timeFor the last 5 years my virtual energy been my bread and butter Alone with my hammer psycho. But this Black Widow legends put life in my bowling again. My first week of Bowling 747 out of the box No practice game.My second week at Bowl. a 279 and 256.I was going to buy the new storm ball that just came out but at the last minute I decided to buy the Black Widow legend And boy am I happy I did.Tonight's my third week of bowling with it and I'm just curious to see how many do.Great ball
The new Widow Legend by Hammer features the proven Gas Mask core found in the Taboo line as well as the original Widow series, now manufactured with the Carbon Fiber. The cover is a polished NBT Hybrid color in a black/red color. The new Widow Legend will be available to the public in August, 2014.If you liked the Black Taboo, Black Widow, Vibe Jet Black, you will absolutely LOVE the Legend. Compared to similarly drilled Black Taboos, the Legend brings at least another 2-3 boards more backend with an even stronger, more defined break point than a Black Taboo. Once the ball begins its move to the pocket, the continuation through the backend and the pins is nothing short of amazing. Additionally, the hitting power of the Legend is second to none. Going through the pins, the Legend is arguably one of the loudest balls you will ever hear when it strikes. The ball simply hits that hard and carries that well.To date, I have drilled 3 Legends. I drilled one with a 45x5x25 (weight hole on PAP), another with a 65x5x25 layout (no weight hole) and a final one with a 60x5x70 layout (weight hole 2" below PAP on VAL).While each one shows a different shape of ball motion (which indicates that this ball is very versatile and can be drilled to do many things), the things that remain consistent with each Legend was the ability of the ball to show/read with precision the breakpoint, the continuation of the ball through the pins, and the hitting power of the ball. On one of them, I have experimented with adding surface to the ball (2000 Abralon) to see if it would change the shape/continuation. Interestingly, the additional surface brought the breakpoint closer BUT it did NOT change the continuation/strength of motion off the spot. In a nutshell, this ball can be drilled to do many things and will hit a variety of pattern lengths/volumes and will suit many styles of bowling. This has already been proven on the PBA Summer Swing where the ball made several shows on different patterns and in fact, won several times. The Legend will clearly be a huge star in Hammer's line of bowling equipment and in my mind, may be as big, if not a bigger seller, than the original Black Widow.See your proshop in early August to order the Widow Legend by Hammer!
Ball is great. I failed to have finger lifts installed by the pro shop. All my other balls do have them. I think that this great ball will be even better with this addition. I will have the pro shop install them.
-Stroker/Tweener style-15-16 MPH with lower revs-Finger TippedRecently upgraded my old ball to this one. I had been using a Hammer Raw Anger for the past 4 years and maintained a consistant 165 average. Lots of variation scoring week to week. Sometimes a 220 one game and then a 140 the next. I had to force a bigger hook with the Raw Anger by slowing down my throw (13~14MPH) and modifying my release (bigger wrist bend). It was either that or basically throw a straight ball due to me naturally wanting to throw faster. Lead to very erratic scoring. So far I've thrown 10 games with this ball and have averaged about 180-190 consistantly. Very nice length with a strong backend hook. With the Widow Legend I can throw it naturally and get the same hook I was forcing with my old ball. If I slow it down it really grabs. I'm a single ball user so I've had to adjust and learn this ball for spares. A few more weeks and I'll have a much better feel with the ball. Great upgrade.
This ball bites like a widow and kills the pin in an instant, the only problem is if you bowl this ball straight down the lane it will make you pay for that. You have to start at one of the last dots and aim for the middle arrow to get the best curve on medium to heavy oil conditions.
Wow, I've been looking for something to help me get to the next level. I am just a beginner, I started league play this past fall with a 159 ave, got a Hammer "Bad Intentions" and ave grew to 182. Our team placed 3rd in our league and qualified for the year end tournament with all leagues in house 1st-4th. I pulled the trigger and got the legend and rolled a couple games of practice just to see how it felt. First time i used it in play was the tournament with all the leagues top 4 teams. Well long story short, I nailed a 727 (1st ever 7), 236, 235 and 256. BTW we won the tournament! What a way to start out with the Black Widow Legend.
gave this gero-stroker a ball reaction never had before!
I use it in league play and it handles great has improved my game.
Just switched to finger tip bowling and only had two occasions to use the BW. Will update review once I have a better assessment.
I started a league at a new bowling alley. I've bowled league for a little over 10 years but never at this particular place. Heavy oil pattern and my other hammers were not finishing in the backend. They would just skid along. I have the absolute curve as well as the cherry vibe and neither was getting it done. First game with this ball was a 203. Left a few ringing 10's. Series was 578. Not too bad for my first time throwing it. I feel pretty confident I can bowl a handful of 600's with this ball. Pretty forgiving if you miss your mark like I did a couple times. No splits *knock on wood*. Predictable breakpoint and very strong finish. Would have gave it 5 stars if it wasn't for leaving a solid 8 pin and 2 solid 7's on what we're really good shots.
I love this ball. I throw a high rev rate and moderate speed(14-16)mph. This ball has great length and breaks on the end. Great for my ball style. I would recommend this ball. First 3 games are 220,229,267.
I bought this bowl and had it drilled at my local lanes. I decided to roll a couple strings before using it in my league. It is important to note that I have not rolled a turkey in 2 years and I average 152 in the league. The first 5 balls I rolled were strikes. I missed a couple of one pin sparesbbut still rolled a 317. I had been throwing a straight ball. I now have a nice hook and I am getting a lot of pin action. Beginners luck, maybe? Time will tell.
I am a low to mid rev player with quite a hard throw. I often end up playing the right side and staying in the dry areas to get the pocket hit I'm looking for. If it is fresh oil or if I miss a few boards inside, forget about hitting the pocket. This ball is changing things for me. Drilled pin up and about 2 " to the right of my ring finger it now has me lining up in the middle to left side throwing across the lane. When I hit my mark (about board 13) all I can say is WOW! The back end finish on this thing is monster for someone with my rev rate. Even if I miss outside, say board 8, I can bring this thing back and still hit strong. For the price, I have a hard time believing there is a better ball for me.FYI - I'm a 170 average getting back to bowling after a 10 year break.Hope this helps others!JDUB
This ball is amazing , backend hook with a ton of hitting power . I shot my first ever 300 game with this ball last night . 772 series overall . 28 strikes out of 36
I drilled my black widow with the MB 1.5in. Left of the thumb hole; a control drilling, suggested by Mo Pinel. IIt arcs and hits hard, allowing me to play right of the oil line, and still carry, an asset for me with my slow speed. Thanks, everyone!
I bought this for my husband and he loves it! His average score before was 150 ans now hes averaging drom 160-220
Great ball just have to get use to using I from a wheelchair
I love this ball, it's everything is more.
Awesome ball. It does everything I wanted in a ball
League bowling
hammer black widow legend, excellent ball.
6-200 games out of first 12 games shot.
I've been using the ball for the passed 3 weeks in league and I've been getting used to the ball. I've gone from 145-almost 180 average after the first three weeks of league and I use my black widow as my primary and spare ball. I'm coming back after a 15 year bowling Hiatus. I love it! I also got one of my team mates to purchase the same ball.
I have no trouble. The only thing that troubled me was the pin was very long 4-5. Which was on the brink of being pro pin. But my pro shop is reliable so we will work with it and see what we can do. Not a big deal just a surprise. I could have requested a shorter pin but no big deal.
Maybe I'm just throwing the ball wrong or drilled the ball wrong. Ball just doesn't hook much than I expected. I use it when lane is dried.
