Balls with Same Hook Potential, Lane Conditions and Coverstock as the Storm Phaze III:

Storm Phaze III

The Storm Phaze III has the attributes of both an innovative core and coverstock technology. The fast-revving shape of the Velocity Core evens out the backend reaction without causing over-reaction. The low RG and high differential coverstock make this benchmark ball a go to for a variety of bowling styles and oil patterns. The R3S Hybrid coverstock does a good job of blending the transitions on the lanes on medium oil conditions.

Question:

How can the Storm Phaze 3 compare with the Storm Super Son!Q

11/3/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Phaze III is designed for more length and a strong backend. Because the Phaze III goes so much longer on the lanes it is ideal for medium oil conditions. The Super Son!Q is duller and this helps it to read earlier on the lanes and also can handle medium to heavier oil because of this.

Question:

How would this ball compare to a Marvel Pearl

11/4/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Marvel Pearl was going to go just slightly longer on the lanes than the Phaze III. The hybrid cover on the Phaze III helps smooth the reaction on the backend some so the Phaze III still goes long on the lanes before hooking but it is smoother on the backend while the Marvel Pearl is more angular.

How does the phase 3 compare to the brunswick prism hybrid??

They would be a very close comparison actually. They are both hybrid coverstocks with a polished finish to give them great length. They are both rated for medium oil but the Prism Hybrid is in Brunswicks high performance line while the Phaze III is in Storms Upper Mid performance line so the Prism Hybrid may be just slightly stronger.

I am not sure there is a big enough difference between this and the Son!Q to need both options. They are both designed to go longer on the lanes and both are upper mid performance balls with similar strength. I would say just to use one or the other between this and the Son!Q.

The Phaze III is an upper mid performance ball for medium oil conditions and the HyRoad X is a mid performance ball for medium to light oil. So the Phaze III will be a stronger hooking ball. Question:

I have the intense fire. Its a high performance ball. Will I lose some thing with the phaze 3 ball. Or will these balls be compatible. Ever phaze 3 is and upper mif performance ball.what it be any difference. Between them

1/10/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The numbers would indicate that the Phaze III and the Intense Fire are very close and almost identical. However, the Intense Fire is going to be slightly stronger than the Phaze III because it had an asymmetric weight block while the Phaze III has a symmetric. This give the Intense Fire a little stronger reaction and makes it more suited for medium to heavier oil while the Phaze III would be best in medium oil.

Question:

I am currently using the Alpha Crux ball what would be a good next ball

1/11/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Yes, the Alpha Crux was mostly designed for heavy oil only so when the lanes start to break down to more medium oil conditions the Phaze III could be a good option to switch to because it handles medium oil better and also gives you more length so it will not roll out too early.

1/12/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

We do not have a ball with the exact same specs as the Intense Fire but the Storm Astrophysix might be the closest option currently. The Intense Fire would probably fit between the AstroPhysix and the Physix but I lean to the reaction of the Astrophysix because it gave good length on the lane like the Intense Fire.

Question:

What's the difference between upper mid balls to high perf balls

1/12/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

High Performance balls tend to have the latest performance pieces and will usually be designed to be the highest hook potential and/or handle heavier oil conditions. Upper mid performance bowling balls tend to be one step down in terms of either hook potential and/or lane conditions that they work in. That said, it is not always better to go with the highest performance ball because you may not need the ball to work in heavier oil or have a high hook potential on the lanes that you typically bowl on.

Question:

My arsenal includes a virtual gravity, crux and a hammer taboo. How would the phase iii compare?

1/13/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The balls that you have are all high performance balls designed for heavier oil almost exclusively. They are also all out-of-the-box with a sanded finish to help the balls react a little earlier on the lanes. The Phaze III will read later on the lanes and because it is not quite as strong as the others it will be more rated for medium oil conditions. It would be a good backup option if you needed something for when the lanes start breaking down.

1/13/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Idol Pro has a duller finish out the box which helps it to start reading earlier on the lanes and work a little better in medium to heavier oil. The Phaze III is designed to go longer on the lanes before it starts hooking so it is more ideal in medium oil only.

Question:

Will the phaze III fit next to my halo vision? I can not get the vision to shape very well.

1/16/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Halo Vision is a high performance ball for medium to heavy oil. It has a 4000 Grit finish on a hybrid cover to it reads a little in the midlane with good continuation on the backend. The Phaze III is a pearl cover with a polished finish which makes it go further down the lane for a sharper more angular backend hook. It is not quite as strong overall as the Halo Vision because it was more designed for medium oil. I hope this helps to determine if this would be a good fit.

Question:

Is the ball only good on medium oil lanes or is it good for all?

1/17/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The ball is rated to perform best in medium oil. If you throw this in heavier oil then the reaction would be later and weaker hook but if you throw this in lighter oil it will want to grab a little earlier and have a stronger hook. You may be able to adjust to use this in most conditions but it is best for medium oil.

What’s better for a 10.5 mph range speed phaze 3 or crux prime

1/23/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Phaze III would be a better option because you would need good length to help with the ball speed being a little slower. The Crux Prime will want to start hooking to early and with your ball speed it may hook too much too early and be too hard to control.

Question:

I have phase 3, pro motion, forge fire, pink hammer , venom shock what should my next ball be? I know I’m gonna get the omega crux too.

1/31/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

So the Pro-Motion and Omega Crux have you covered on Heavier oil conditions. The Forge Fire and Pink Widow have your medium to heavier oil covered. The Phaze III is a good medium oil ball and the Venom Shock is good for medium to lighter oil. You have pretty much every condition covered but if you feel like there are any gaps you may want to try and find something to fit where you are struggling the most.

The Phaze 3 will have a sharper backend hook than the Hammer Web Tour but because the Web Tour starts hooking earlier on the lanes the Web Tour may cover more boards overall. It would be close but if you want to see that sharper backend hook then the Phaze 3 is a better option for that.

Question:

how does this compare to the Hammer Black Widow Pink?

2/3/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Black Widow Pink would be a little stronger because it has an asymmetric weight block and can handle medium to heavier oil while the Phaze 3 would be best suited in medium oil. Both have great length and a sharp backend.

Would the Phaze 3 be in between the IQ Tour Emerald and Pro-Motion in terms of strength?

2/4/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Phaze 3 would be just a little stronger than the IQ Tour Emerald but it is a very close comparison to that. The Pro-Motion is much stronger than both the Phaze and Emerald and it reads more in the midlane rather than late.

Question:

I have A nano and a root beer crud thinking of getting phaze 3 now much of a difference intensive or less

2/13/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

There have been a few Nano bowling balls so I could not say for sure on that without know which Nano but the Crux Pearl had a Rootbeer fragrance and that was a pearl cover to give you good length. The Phaze 3 also gives you good length but it would not be quite as strong as the Crux. It would be a good compliment so that if the Crux was too strong you could transition down the the Phaze 3 to use more in medium oil and it should work well.

With this ball do you get the same reaction and drive through the pins with a 14lb vs a 15lb ball

2/21/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The 14lb has the same weight block as the 15lb ball but when you are dropping one pound in overall weight it will have a slight difference in how the ball carries through the pins. The 15lb will driver through the pins a little easier so you may have to try and get more entry angle on a 14lb to get similar results.

Question:

What is the best cleaner for the Phaze 3 and is it better polished or dull

2/24/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The ball comes out of the box with a 1500 grit polished finish so the recommended cleaner would be the React Shine Reactive Polish and Cleaner and it is intended to stay polished. However, you may adjust the finish to get a desired reaction that best suites your needs. Here is a link to the cleaner/polish: https://www.bowling.com/products/storm-reacta-shine-reactive-polish---cleaner.htm

Question:

What does that.248 mean

2/24/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The RG value of 2.48 is describing the reaction that the weight block gives this ball. The weight block is designed to try and roll earlier on the lane to give a smoother reaction. However, the cover is designed to go longer on the lanes so while the weight block is trying to rev earlier it will still skid and have a little later break due to the polished finish.

Question:

Will polishing any new 2020 bowling ball make it go longer without restricting the shot

2/25/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

If you add polish to just about any bowling ball you are going to get a later reaction on the lanes. It may loose some of the over all hook but it will likely increase some in the backend hook when you add polish. The only balls that you may not see much a difference in would be balls that are already polished out of the box so they are already designed to go longer to begin with.

Question:

Will simply cleaning a new 2020 bowling ball make it go longer with good strike potential?

2/25/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Cleaning a ball will not increase the length. It can increase the hook potential if the ball has lost some of the hook due to it being loaded up with oil and dirt but it is only use to try and restore the hook back similar to the out of the box reaction.

Yes, this would be a great option to handle more medium oil or shorter oil patterns. It has great length similar to the Astrophysix but it is not quite as strong so that helps it to read better in medium oil.

3/3/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This will have a very similar reaction to the Snap Lock but this would be designed more specifically for medium oil while the Snap Lock handle more medium to heavier oil conditions. So if you wanted something to use when the Snap Lock was getting a little too aggressive you could change down to the Phaze III and it would give you a similar read.

Question:

How would the phase 3 compare to the reign of fire?

3/6/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

They will have a very different reaction actually. The Reign of Fire was a mid performance ball and out of the box it had a dull 1000 grit finish which made it ready very early on the lane and have a gradual hook while the Phaze III is an upper mid performance ball that is designed to go long and react with a sharper backend hook.

3/7/2020 - By

Question:

I currently throw a 14 lb. Cutting Edge. How does the Phase III compare with it?

3/12/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

It may depend on which Cutting Edge you have. There was a Solid, Hybrid, and Pearl Cutting Edge. The Phaze III would actually line up closest to the Cutting Edge solid in over all performance. The Cutting Edge Pearl would go a little longer and was not quite as strong as the Phaze III. The Cutting Edge Hybrid was a duller finish which helped give it more grip on the lanes to read earlier on the lanes which is different than the polished finish on the Phaze III which reads later on the lanes. The Cutting Edge Solid would read just a little earlier than the Phaze III and be just a little weaker than the Phaze III but they were both good in medium oil conditions.

Question:

I have a Brunswick Rhino and want to go either with the Zing Hybrid,Squach hybrid or the Phase 3 ,are these balls similar

5/24/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

If you were looking to move up and get a ball that is similar to your Rhino but that handles more oil and that has a stronger backend hook then the options you have mentioned would be good. The Squatch Hybrid is a mid performance ball, the Phaze 3 is an upper mid performance ball and the Zing! Hybrid was a high performance so they would typically be ranked in that order of least hook to most hook potential but all options would be stronger than the Rhino and work better in medium to heavier oil.

how do i know what pin/top weight is needed

7/1/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The pin and top weight are specs that you can request when placing the order if you know the drilling layout you are going to have done on the ball. Certain drilling layouts may require a specific pin distance in order to drill the ball so you would want to check with your driller before hand and confirm what pin and top weight to request in order to get the best layout for your needs. We would not be able to recommend a pin or top weight unfortunately because we would not know how the ball will be drilled at your local proshop.

7/22/2020 - By

This will have similar length and shape to the Timeless but it is not as strong overall so it is more rated for medium oil while the Timeless works more in medium to heavy oil. Question:

I’m switching to 2 hands and my speed is around 15.5 mph, is this a good ball for me?

8/12/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Typically 2 handed release bowlers have a higher rev rate and since your ball speed is pretty average you may be a rev dominant bowler. In this case you want a ball that gets pretty decent length before it reacts so the ball does not hook too strong too early. This Phaze III does have good length with a polished finish and should work well for you on medium oil conditions.

What are the differences in Hy-Road pearl and Phase 3

9/13/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

They are both going to work well in medium oil but the Phaze III is a little stronger hook potential than the Hy-Road Pearl. The Hy-Road Pearl goes a little longer on the lanes so it has less time to react compared to the Phaze III which has a slightly earlier reaction with a hybrid cover.

Question:

In my arsenal, I have: Rotogrip Wreck-Em, Track Kinetic Green, Columbia Tyrant, Storm Tropical Breeze, Hammer Arson. I am looking to buy Phaze lll and/or Trend. Which ball would fit my arsenal? I Bowl 2x a week on leagues and compete on tournaments 5-7 X a year. My bowling center has medium to dry lanes.

10/21/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

To break down your arsenal currently you have the Tyrant which is your heavy oil ball which reads mid lane, you have the Arson which is a medium oil ball that reads midlane, you have the Kinetic Emerald which is for medium oil but reads later on the lane, then the Wreck-Em works in medium to light oil and reads later and lastly the Tropical Breeze is light oil and later reaction. So of the two balls you are looking at, both are for late hook but the Phaze is more in medium oil and the Trend is more medium to heavy oil. I think the Trend would fill more of a gap between your Tyrant and the Arson or Kinetic so that may be the best fit.

I'm a thumbless league bowler. I currently have a Storm Tropical Surge for lighter conditions/more control, and am planning on getting the Phaze 3 for to open up the lanes gutter to gutter. What would be a good 3rd Storm ball to round out my arsenal for league play?

12/19/2020 - By

It may depend on where you need the 3rd ball to play. I would say to get the Phaze 3 and use that for a little while and then see where you need the 3rd ball to fit. Question:

What is the difference between the storm Phase lll and the storm code x

10/9/2021 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

There are several things different between these two bowling balls. The Phaze III is an upper mid performance ball for medium oil and has a polished hybrid coverstock to give it good length. The Code X is a high performance ball for heavier oil conditions and has a duller solid coverstock to read early on the lanes.

Question:

How does phase3compare to old razor

11/20/2021 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

It is hard to say exactly because there have been a few bowling balls with the name Razor and several were discontinued long ago so I no longer have the details on them. I can confirm that the Phaze III is designed to work well in medium oil conditions and it will have good length with a strong backend hook. This would be a good option if you like a sharper backend hook or if you may be a rev dominant player.

Question:

My ball speed is 9 to 10 do you recommend this ball and what kind of drill

12/31/2021 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball could be a good option for you if you need something for medium to heavy oil. For your ball speed the ball will give you good length to get down the lane before hooking and when you have it drilled you may want to make sure the driller also knows your ball speed so they can drill the ball to fit your style.

Question:

I use mostly Storm Trend, Columbia Tyrant, Rotogrip Wreck ‘Em, Track Kinetic and Motiv Venom. Our house lanes are never oily, more medium. I can’t use Trend here since I throw between 8-10 speed. I always have one bad game when the lane transitions. I bowl 2x a week and 5-6 tournaments a year. I’m a 74-yr old female. Will Phase 3 or another ball help my game?

1/1/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Phaze III would be a little stronger than the Wreck'em, Kinetic, and Venom but not as much as the Tyrant. If you were having trouble at the beginning of the night with the first ball not being strong enough then the Phaze III could be an option but if you start with one of these and struggle more as the lanes are getting lighter to transition to something then you may need a lighter oil ball or even an entry performance ball that works better in light oil than the ones you have. Maybe a Storm Tropical or Brunswick Rhino.

Question:

How will storm phase 3 handle light and heavy oil conditions?

1/1/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Phaze III will work best in medium oil conditions. In heavier oil the ball will not be strong enough so it will have a lower hook potential. In ligher oil it will hook too strong and too early on the lanes.

Question:

My ball speed is between 9 and 10 MPH. Would this ball be a good choice for me based upon my ball speed?

2/2/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Yes, if you have a lower ball speed then you would need a bowling ball that has good length so the ball does not roll out too early on you. The polished finish on the Phaze III does give it good length in medium oil conditions and you may be able to use this in some heavier oil too with your ball speed.

Question:

How does this ball compare to the Zen?

4/1/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Phaze III was not quite as strong as the Zen Pearl. The Phaze III will work better in medium oil while the Zen Pearl is more for medium to heavy oil conditions. Both have good length and a strong backend but the Zen is a little stronger backend.

Question:

the Freeze ball i have consistently curves to the left. i can't avoid it. will this ball go straighter? thanks

4/28/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Storm Phaze III will have a stronger hook potential than the Columbia Freeze so if you feel the Freeze is hooking too much you would have to go to a ball that has less hook potential. You may like an entry performance ball or possibly a urethane ball for something that has less hook potential. Or if you wanted to have a spare ball for straight shots and use your Freeze when you need it to have hook.

Question:

What is the hook potential on this ball?

4/30/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball is an upper mid performance ball rated for medium oil conditions. This will have a pretty high hook potential in medium oil and has a strong backend hook. If you were comparing this across all bowling balls then this is more of a medium-high hook potential.

Question:

I currently have the Storm Electrify Pearl 12lb?b, and I am looking for a slightly stronger ball, I like a smoother, and later reaction down the lane. Would you suggest this, the Storm Phaze 3 over the HyRoad pearl 12lb?

4/30/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Yes, I would suggest to go up the Phaze III. The HyRoad Pearl was one step higher and you would not see as big of a difference or as noticeable of a difference just making that step up. The Phaze III is not going to be so much stronger that you cannot control it but it is a better option to have if you were wanting to have a 2 ball arsenal where you use the Phaze 3 in medium or some heavier oil and the Electrify in lighter oil.

Question:

Can I get phase 3 ball regularly drilled

5/19/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

We only have custom drilling offered at this time for the Phaze III. Performance balls tend to perform better when you do a more advanced drilling so if you are not sure of the measurements you may want to decline the drilling so you can have it drilled locally.

Does this ball come already drilled?

6/2/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The ball does not start out drilled. We may offer drilling for an extra fee but you would need to already have your measurements if you want us to do the drilling. If you do not have the measurements you can get the ball without holes and take it to your local proshop to be measured and drilled.

Question:

So I have a storm nova that I took down to 1000 grit because I have very little rev, I was wandering if the phaze 3 would be a good step down? And how should I drill it?

6/6/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Phaze III is a good step down but this gives you more length than the Nova and less hook overall so out of the box you may have to adjust it down some too. Possibly something like a 2000 grit or 3000 grit would give you a little more grip but still read later than the Nova to play more in medium oil.

Question:

Does this ball work for a straight bowler? I want something better than plastic that will stay on the lane and give the straight ball the best pin action

7/16/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball is designed to have hook potential and it would possibly be too much if you want to get a straight ball. You could go with the Storm Mix which has a urethane coverstock and still considered to go straight or you could also go with an entry performance ball which has the least amount of hook potential for a reactive resin ball.

Question:

it says the finish is 4k fast or 4000 grit. from what i see other places its supposed to come out of the box at 1500 grit

10/21/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Storm has made a few running changes on this ball over the last few months. The original out-of-box finish was 1500 grit polished. Then Storm started making them with a 4k (4000) grit finish. The most recent change is that Storm now makes this ball out of the box with a reacta gloss finish. We still have some of the 4K finish balls in stock so when you order one you could get either the 4K or the newest Reacta Gloss depending on what that particular warehouse has in stock at the time but eventually we will run out of the 4K and only have the Reacta Gloss option.
