Hammer Black Widow Black/Gold

This bowling ball is Carbon Fiber Infused! Carbon fiber is one of the toughest materials on earth. Hammer decided to add this material to the inner core of this ball for added strength and durability allowing them to offer an incredible 3 year warranty.

Just got mine!

I'm getting ready to play in a league for the first time in about 15 years, so I decided to upgrade to a new ball. It came in yesterday, so I took it to my local pro shop to get it drilled, and they let me bowl 5 frames to check it out - 4 strikes in a row followed by a spare. I'm fired up! Haven't even played a full game yet, and I love this ball.

This ball makes me want to hit the lanes again.

This isn't a review, just a comment. The way this ball looks drew me to the page. I've read the stats on it and read the reviews, and if there's any new ball on the market that makes me want to get out on the lanes again, this is it. I stopped bowling a few years ago when my job took me to a city without a great bowling center, and now I've gotten older, retired, and haven't rolled a ball in several years. Switched to a 15 pound ball when I got a little older, but still managed to have a good average, and shoot some good series. In recent years I've fought cancer and won, survived a terrible fall, and am now on a very limited income so I don't buy new products anymore. I still have a dozen or so Ebonite balls in the basement that I sometimes look and dream about past years, and just reading about this ball makes me want to clean up a few of the old ones and see if I can still even roll one. It looks great, and it sounds as if it rolls just as great. Wishing you much success with it.

Must Have!!!

This ball is so versatile. This cover and core combo is long enough to get the ball through the heads for a straighter line but strong enough to keep it in your hand as lanes transition and you need to move left. This ball is a must have.

1 in the bag and 2 more waiting

This core is obviously one of the most iconic cores in bowling. Hammer decided to pair it with the cover from the Rip'd. The result has been AWESOME!
If you liked the Black Widow Dark Legend but wanted a cleaner sharper pearl version - THIS is your ball. I love how it rolls like a true Widow but so strong and defined down lane. There isn't any quit in this ball. Its really good and keeps the pins low with that awesome RG resulting in more pin action. I enjoy seeing this ball's motion and you won't be disappointed in the results

Black Widow B/G

Here is my take on the Hammer Black Widow Black/Gold. This new release features the Aggression Hybrid cover found on the Rip'd which surrounds the ever popular and proven Gas Mask core. Like all Hammers, the ball features an industry leading 3 year warranty. Factory finish is 1000 Abralon with Factory Finish Polish. Color is ...Black and Gold!
My "vitals" are a 405 rev rate with a PAP of 5 9/16 over and 1/8 up. I drilled the ball with 30 x 5 ½ by 10 layout. I am drilling my equipment currently without weight holes in conformity with the new rules that go into effect on August 1, 2018. I have used this ball at factory finish and 2000 Abralon on THS, USBC White and Shark Sport.
In my opinion, this is another great Gas Mask core ball. Compared to the original Rip'd, this new Widow shows a little more length and recovery. On a THS and even modified USBC White, the Widow B/G shows strong change of direction when it sees the friction. I have always found hitting power and carry to be excellent with Gas Mask core balls and this ball is no exception. With a more aggressive surface, the Widow B/G does pick up earlier but still shows plenty of change of direction down lane.
With the Gas Mask core, many different shapes can be created with a proper layout and with proper surface preparation, this ball should be in play on a variety of volumes and lengths. I believe this ball will work for many different styles of play.
See your local proshop for more information about the Hammer Black Widow Black/Gold!

What I've been missing!

The Black and Gold Widow has given me the option to play strighter without fear of down lane reaction. Its length really helps me get through the front part of the lanes while still giving a strong continuous backend.

Widow Black & Gold is MONEY!

The Iconic Gas Mask core is a perfect match for this Agression Hybrid cover stock. Drilled this with a dual angle layout of 50x4.25x80. With this layout i get the best of both worlds. Which is miss right down lane and the ball recovers strong enough to STILL go through the pins. If I miss in the middle of the lane in the puddle it sits and gets through the pins with now problem. Left the ball with the out of the box finish which matches up for high , medium and lower ball speeds. This is a great buy for anyone looking for a great ball with great motion and great control.

The Legend is Back!

I think most of us have used a Widow with the legendary gas mask core at some point in our bowling lives. Well, the legend is back and is better than ever. I had a chance to throw this bad boy on a typical house shot. Boy, it did not disappoint. Very clean through the heads with the controlled predictable widow back end. This ball hits and carry's like a true champ. Definitely my favorite widow to date. If you looking for a ball to tackle medium conditions, this is the ball for you. Plus, MAN!, this ball is beautiful...

Gas Mask core strikes again!

The Hammer Black/Gold Widow features the Aggression Hybrid cover which is the same chemical base as the cover of the Hammer Rip'D. This ball fits nicely between the Rip'D and the BW Gold. You get the extra length than the Rip'D but still get a strong backend like the BW Gold. For me any cover used with the Gas Mask core is an immediate winner! Get yours today!

This Black Widow black/gold is must have for dries fronts

This Hammer Black Widow reminds me of the old Black Widow Venom. Very clean, controllable, and angular. The Black/Gold is the cleanest Black Widow yet. When the fronts burn up but they are still tighter down lane, and you still need an asymmetrical ball. Very angular with the famous Black Widow Gas Mask core.

Question:

I throw a straight ball. No hook at all. Would this ball work for me? I love the looks of it.

3/11/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

If you throw this ball straight it will go pretty straight. It is designed to be a hooking ball but it only hooks if you release the ball with the correct spin. Also, it is more expensive because of some of the features that help this ball to have hook potential so you are paying extra for the hook features that you would not really use. If you like the looks because of the spider the you may also check this ball out which is much lower in price but is designed to go straighter: https://www.bowling.com/products/hammer-black-widow-spare-blue-orange-smoke.htm

I’m looking at buying a new ball, all I have ever used is Storm and I have some questions before I make a purchase. First off, I am just getting back into bowling and all of my equipment is Storm with #1 ball being the Storm Invasion, how would the Black Widow black&gold compare to the Invasion? Question:

Would this be a suitable ball for a straight bowler for Med-Heavy oil conditions

8/18/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

If you are a straight bowler then you would not really need to spend a lot on a upper mid performance ball because you could get a much less expensive ball that goes straight. The reason this ball cost more than some of the other balls is because it has a higher hook potential but if you did not want the ball to hook you would not need to spend extra on a ball that is designed for high hook. You could get a spare ball that goes straight for a much lower price or you could get an entry performance ball that was designed for a low hook for much less and it would work just as well as this if you throw it straight.

Question:

Does the black widow come in a lefty ball?

8/25/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

When the ball has an asymmetric weight block you may need to make the request in the specs box that you are left handed or right handed just to be sure the alignment is suited best for your hand. There can be limitations that keep you from have a lot of drilling options if you do not specify this when ordering an asymmetric ball. You can drill almost any ball to work for a right handed bowler or left handed bowler but to get the most options you would need to request for the hand you use when ordering just to be safe.

Question:

I have a new 14 lb. How would I determine the drill hole layout since the manufacturer layout is with a 15lb?

9/21/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The 14lb ball has the same weight block as the 15lb ball so the layout options are the same. If you went down to a 13lb then the weight block changes to a symmetric weight block and you would have to get a different layout then but 14lbs -16lbs has the same layout options.

Question:

Is this ball for straight bowlers

10/4/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This is an upper mid performance ball so it has a pretty strong hook potential on medium to heavy oil conditions. If you throw this ball straight it will pretty much go straight but we sell a lot less expensive straight balls if you just need the ball to go straight.

Question:

Is this a good ball for someone who Bowls straight with a little hook at the end?

10/20/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball is designed for medium to heavy oil and the polished finish would help this ball go longer on the lane and have a sharp backend hook. It is rated as an upper mid performance ball so it has a pretty strong hook potential on the backend. If you do not put much spin on the ball it will not hook a lot but it has the potential to have a big backend hook if you put the right spin on the release.

Question:

Would this be a good ball to use for someone who throws with no thumb and already throws all the way to the left.

10/31/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

If you are right handed and stand all the way to the left to throw your current ball then you could use this ball to but it depends on other variables. It will depend on the lane conditions you bowl in. It depends on how fast you bowl as well and which board or arrow you throw out to. This ball could still be useful but only in the right conditions would this be a good option.

Question:

what makes this different than the statement hybrid regarding lane play ?

11/25/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Both balls are going to have a very similar reaction on the lanes. The only difference is that the Statement Hybrid is a high performance and the Black Widow Black/Gold is an upper mid performance. This would make the Statement Hybrid a little stronger hooking over all.
