Storm Tropical Surge Solid Purple/Navy

Storm Tropical Surge Solid Purple/Navy The Storm Tropical bowling ball legacy continues with the Surge core making a great bowling ball for entry-level and casual league bowlers. The Tropical Surge Purple/Navy introduced a solid reactive coverstock to the highly popular line of bowling balls. The bright fun colors and unique fragrances make these fun balls appealing to bowlers of every skill level. The solid version of the Reactor coverstock is moderately aggressive but continues to provide ample control with a reasonable amount of backend reaction. The Surge core has a higher differential which brings dependability and a little more hook at the backend.

Pros:

Cheap

Cons:

Poor durability, Inconsistency, Smell

Best Uses:

Doorstop

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Poor cover durability, terrible smell

This was my first non-house bowling ball, and it almost made me want to stop bowling. With light use (3-10 games/week) and no abuse, the cover picked up it's first deep groove within a few weeks (from what? The ball return?), and cracks around the drilling site by the second 12-week season (3 games/week). My ball doesn't even crash into the lane - I lay it down fairly gently, especially compared to others with whom I've bowled. Also, everything you own stored near the ball is going to smell like an overbearing chemical air freshener (think car mirror hanger in a NYC gypsy cab) - your bag, shoes, etc., and any car you leave it in for more than a few minutes. I enjoy bowling, and I know that you get what you pay for - I never should have let the pro shop guy convince me to start here, and I will never buy Storm again based on the smell alone (my coach told me they do this to all their balls - insane).

Question:

How much more hook potential would the solid Tropical have compared to the pearl?

Answer:

Hi Don! The Storm Tropical Surge Solid would react earlier on the lanes than the Pearl, but they would have the same amount of hook potential.

Question:

Hello I'm interested in tropical surge but can't decide on the weight. Currently using a 40 year 15# that i feel is now a bit heavy now that I'm 60. I was thinking of going to a 13# but don't want to be disappointed on pin action. Any advice?

Answer:

Just my unprofessional opinion but if you are moving to a lighter ball I would recommend something a ball that is a little stronger in the back end than the Tropical Surge.
