Works well
These work and stick well, without leaving a sticky residue on your thumb/finger afterwards. Nice slick feel with the ball, with no added drag on your release.

Lifesaver
Excel brand tape has been a lifesaver for me. I have a large callous on my bowling thumb, I haven't been able to get local Pro Shops to drill my balls to fit my thumb, everything has to be a little snug or bigger and the tape helps assist with my release. It prevents me from getting hung up in the ball. My release is much smoother and more consistent.

This tape is designed to help with fitting, performance, and release so it can help for fitting if your thumb hole was too large. The different numbers and colors have a different thickness and texture so your thumb hole was much larger you may consider one of the thicker tapes like the 4 or 5.
